'Gulliver's Travels' trailer: Jack Black is a giant among men

"Gulliver's Travels" has been adapted for movies or television at least a half-dozen times over the years, and it's headed to the big screen again in December with a contemporary twist.

Jack Black stars in the new version of Jonathan Swift's 18th-century satire as a guy whose travel writing assignment goes horribly wrong and lands him in the land of Lilliput, whose tiny residents first capture and then come to revere him. It also stars Emily Blunt, Jason Segel and Amanda Peet.

Based on what we see in the (rather fun) trailer above, the movie sticks reasonably close to Swift's centuries-old tale (although it omits the other parts of the book; Lilliput was only the first of Lemuel Gulliver's adventures) while unquestionably being the first adaptation to include "Star Wars" and iPhone references.

It adds up to what looks like a fairly kid-friendly take on the story, light on the social satire but heavy on Black's goofball persona. It opens Dec. 22.

How's the trailer look to you?

well that looks truly awful I hate it when hollywood makes insufferably inane movies like this with pedestrian humor nobody above the age of 12 should laugh at. Its even worse that its based on a respected novel. Is it really that hard to make a kids movie that adults would find funny? I cant believe people just toss 100 million dollars at stuff like this. I realize its a kids movie, but i dont think the original was for kids (at least not this young). and just because its a kids movie doesnt give it an excuse to be lazy. Kids movies can be clever too. Not even a goldfish would find this to be clever. Anyway i know im being harsh, and it could just be a bad trailer, but hollywood is going to keep making stupid obvious movies unless people ask for something better.
