The subway in Red Bluff CA. Didnt honor vets
I fill That all Subway Should honor Vets. not just a few
Roseville Ca. Subway didn't honor veterans today.
Today, Veterans Day, I was on my way home from a Veteran's Day ceremony in Syosset, New York. I stopped in at Subways in Plainview on South Oyster Bay Road. I informed the server behind the counter that I was there to get my free sub sandwich offered to veterans in honor of Veterans Day.
I came in with copies of my discharge papers, membership info for the American Legion and the VFW (I am the Chaplain in the Syosset chapter). The server behind the counter looked at me as if I was from another planet. He said he had no knowledge of this promotion. He was the only person working the counter. Needless to say, this was very embarrassing. I left, cordially saying thanks for his trouble.
I have no intention to ever patronize a Subways again. I have a son who is physically and mentally challanged, and he loves Subways. He also agreed to never go to a Subways again. I intend to let my fellow legionaires and VFW brothers know about this at our future meetings and request that they, too, join me in boycotting Subways everywhere.
Whoever is in charge of this program at Subways headquarters should be fired for such an outragous and inept implementation of a program for vets. Shame on you, Subway.
Do me a favor, Subways mismanagement team, don't offer any more promotons for veterans - we deserve better than this. Thank you.
The Subway in Richmond,VA DID honor Veterans Day. And according to what I read it was only select Subways that were doing it in the first place. That's why I called ahead of time before even making a trip there.
Had similar experience at Subway in Indianapolis on E. 38th St. just west of Post Rd. The manager just looked at me and didn't know what I was talking about. Then he said I needed to have a coupon.Coupon?
Chaplain - Shame on you! I am sure it is disheartening to see an advertisement for free something for Veterans and then be turned away when you go there to get it, but being a Chaplain, you should know better than to mock a food chain and do so on a public forum. Turn the other cheek and go on and keep what happened between you and your son. It certainly would have been the more Christian thing to do.
The article clearly says "select" locations. Each Subway is franchised. While many of the chain's promotions are part of the business, I would imagine that each owner has the right to offer or not offer a promotion such as this. It's no different than their ability to do advertising locally with promotions. Don't discount the entire chain because of the decision of one franchisee. This may simply have not been plausible for a particular location based on lost revenue, lack of staffing to hold an event such as this, etc. Yes, it would be nice if each location were able to do so, but it's not the case. For instance, I don't think a Subway immediately off base would be expected to offer free subs to all veterans for the day. Or what about the Subway in the Pentagon? Simply not feasible.
My hat goes off to the employee of the Subway on the intersection of Hy. 151 & 51 in Madison Wisconsin. They were polite, very respectful and thanked me for my service. Yes I did enjoy my free sub.
Thank you subway

Most Subway restaurants are franchised out to foreign business people. They typically do not participate in company-wide promotions, especially ones involving the military. Don't think they "get" the Veteran's Day thing. God bless our troops!
