Zach Galifianakis smokes weed on 'Bill Maher': Was that wise?
Zach Galifianakis joins everyone -- even R2-D2 and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- in making a public appearance to encourage voters to cast their ballots on the Nov. 2 midterm elections. But will his particular stunt help or hinder his cause?
On this past week's "Real Time With Bill Maher," "The Hangover" star discusses Proposition 19, in which Californians can decide whether or not to legalize marijuana.
"It's a tricky thing politically to jump on that bandwagon," says Galifianakis before pulling lighting up a joint and taking a few puffs. "Because I think that maybe people still see it as taboo."
The bold move seems to amuse most of the panelists, including conservative Margaret Hoover who verifies that it's pot by sniffing the joint and then handing it back.
So will this stunt actually gain support for decriminalizing pot or will it confirm -- at least in the mind of detractors -- that marijuana will make you do crazy things? Galifianakis is known for his generally wacky actions, like shaving off his beard mid-hosting during "Saturday Night Live," so he might not be the best poster child for rational behavior. Then again, he sure does keep us on our toes.

I avoid any of Zach G's appearances and movies as much as I can. I think he's a fool -- and Friday's stunt just proved it. Don't know why he gets so much attention.
No harm done. Which is exactly the point of Prop 19.
But Zach is hilarious
You'd have to get me stoned to watch Maher.
"No harm done. Which is exactly the point of Prop 19."
Thanks for completely invalidating years of effort by the anti-smoking lobby with regards to second-hand smoke. Actually, it's going to be entertaining to see all the anti-smoking activists' work upended as they have to start all over again with joint-smoking (if those who feel it should be openly consumed get their way).
Alex- Prop 19 calls for the same regualtions as it does tobacco smokers. MEANING YOU CAN'T JUST LIGHT UP A JOINT ANYWHERE YOU PLEASE.
* a non-public place such as a residence or
* a public establishment licensed for on site marijuana consumption.
The internet is your friend. Read it before you bash it. If
Alex- I also believe your side will win this one. But you know what? I'm still gonna consume it. Everyone I know will continue to use it. In 20 years in the workforce, I have had many co-workers, even numerous managers that used it. They all lead productive lives, are well-liked, respected members of their communities. BUT OH NO! They smoke a joint in their own home, on their own spare time! GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK. The good users FAR OUTWEIGH the bad ones.
Alex: you are making the (fallacious) assumption that marijuana, if legalized, will be primarily smoked. Vaporizing and other forms of consumption have been growing prodigiously in popularity. Furthermore, the "anti-smoking" people have been combating cigarette smoke, not smoke resulting from marijuana. Just because marijuana produces smoke doesn't mean that it is the same exact thing as cigarette smoke (in fact, it's not). Many more studies would have to be done on the effects of marijuana smoke for even a fraction of the (just) ire that anti-smoking groups have espoused towards cigarette smoke to be justifiable.
Also: see above.
HILARIOUS!!
