Willow Smith introduces 'Warriorettes,' explains 'Whip My Hair' video concept
Willow Smith is having a very good week. Not only did her debut music video rack up nearly 5 million hits in just a few days -- and a 'Sesame Street' parody mash-up is doing almost just as well.
Now, the 9-year-old is talking about the concept behind the video, and it involves coining a few new terms.
"Me and my mom first came up with Willowettes, and then we came up with Warriorettes," Smith tells MTV News. "It takes a warrior to stand up for themselves and not let anybody tell them that what they're wearing or what they're saying or what they're doing is wrong."Now, the 9-year-old is talking about the concept behind the video, and it involves coining a few new terms.
So that technicolor crew dancing with her in "Whip My Hair," those would be the Warriorettes.
"'Whip My Hair' means don't be afraid to be yourself," says Smith, "and don't let anybody tell you that that's wrong. Because the best thing is you."
A catchy hook and a positive message? We're smitten.

SHE IS ******* 9!!!
STOP MESSING UP YOUR CHILDREN WILL, DON'T YA HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR MONEY!?
next week they gon' take a poor 6 year old and dress her up like lady gaga
It's is not a 9yr old "warrior" that stands up for themselves when you're told you're wrong. It's a brat.
I am happy for the kid! She is standing up for kids everywhere.. It is not bratty to be yourself! Whether we, as parents, like it or not, kids of her age group, are picked on all the time by other kids in school, playground, etc. They do not share this information with us! We have to find out from teachers, chaperones, etc. I think Willow has a beautiful message to all kids! Keep it up, girl! And grown-ups, quit hating on the 9 year old who's making a name for herself!.. Sorry you did NOT!
With all due respect to Will and his daughter, 9 year old kids are supposed to be told what to do, told what is or is not appropriate to say and told what they are doind is wrong if it is indeed wrong. If there is a catalyst to what is wrong with our country this is a perfect example. Parents out of control, no control and kids with no boundaries. And poor Willow, instead just being a kid her dad is putting her to work, like her brother. I feel sorry for them. Another Jackson family in the making.
i like musie video
I agree with sam, Unkie Fill, and Orgad. The last thing we need in this world are more people believing they can do no wrong...
great video but i don't think some of you understand being born into a family like the smith's gives you no change of a normal childhood. everyone is entitled to there on opinion but really you have nothing else better to do then bash a 9 year old.
"Don't let haters keep me off my grind
Keep my head up i know i'll be fine
Keep fighting until i get there
When i'm down and i feel like giving up"
Geez, I don't think she's saying 'Don't obey your parents.' She's telling kids to stand up for what they believe in--you're allowed to be different; you don't all have to conform; be proud of who you are!
no one should be surprise by the racist and hateful statements written by white haters on the internet about this beautiful talented black child.
america used to sell black children like Willow on the slave auction block 100 years ago and the white haters are angry because they can no longer destroy beautiful black children like Willow.
So the best the haters can do is sit behind their computers like cowards and post negativity about fulfilled black stars that are living their lives richly.
Willow's entire family are wealthy stars and The Smiths could care less what the broke haters say or think about their blessed family.
Willow stay strong, because WARRIORS WALK ALONE.
To "Willow Rules", at the time of my posting there are only 9 other posts here and the only racist one seems to be yours. First, I'm a big Smith family fan who just happens to be of another race. A lot of their fans are of different races not just black or they wouldn't be the success they are in America. Legal slavery ended in America in 1865. ALL RACES have been subjected to slavery at some time in history and in fact domestic and sexual slavery still exists illegally worldwide today. The Smith family are very talented and very lucky to have acheived the success they have. Lots of talented people never get discovered. That being said, parents have a right to raised their children anyway they want as long as no harm comes to the child. "Willow Rules", stop comparing people in the present to people in the past. No one today is legally a slave and no one today is legally a slave owner. Everyone in this great country has the ability to be anything they want to be, just ask Obama.
