Vince Vaughn issues non-apology about 'Dilemma's' gay joke
Universal Pictures may have scrapped the original trailer for "The Dilemma," which featured Vince Vaughn's character calling electric cars "gay," but the actor doesn't seem to agree with their decision.
In a statement released by Deadline, the actor acknowledges the harm in prejudices like homophobia while pointing out silenced jokes that make note of them do more harm than good.
"Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences," says Vaughn, "whatever those differences may be. Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together. Drawing dividing lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. So does he have a point or were you hoping for more of a mea culpa?

He does have a point. I don't condone any bullying of any kind whatsoever. However, I didn't see anything wrong with the joke. He wasn't targeting homosexuals with the joke. I can see how people can take it the wrong way but there was nothing wrong with the joke.

Sorry, Vince. In today's PC climate, you can't give anyone "the vapors" by being offensive. The correct way to phrase that joke would have been,"Everyone knows electric cars are retarded."
Well said Vince Vaughn. Seem to be taking alot of bad PR from the gay folks and supporters. Think your lucky its not from the electric car folk. They are a much smarter and a more dangerous crowd.

O come on world, the word GAY was hijacked as a representative word for homosexuals. It used to mean happy or was in reference to bygone Dandies in the 17th century. Every blessed teenager in the world uses it now to describe something off centre.You don't see the heterosexual community getting all upset if a member of the Homosexual community calls their vehicle a bloke y car. Get over yourself, learn to laugh and stop drawing attention to differences between gay and straight with such zest and everything will even out in the fullness of time.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned "The Simpsons" episode when they go to "the most boring place on earth" (Epcot Center) and the gay animatrons point to people in the electric cars and repeat "One of us! One of us!" right after the announcer of the ride ("sponsored by the gasoline car prouducers of America") says that the electric cars can't go very fast or far and that "people will think you are gay".
It was hilarious! Have people forgotten about this episode? It wasn't THAT long ago (less than ten years I think).
Is Vince Vaughn the writer or this Movie??? If isn't the GLBT should be after the writer not Vaughn. Just like if The Big Bang Theory had a homophobic comment and Two and a half men ( which they have!) then the writers should be attacked! Vince was reading from a script! Duh!

Seriously I agree with Vince Vaughn 100%+!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sick of people having to be so fuc&*%$ politically correct and having to watch every single word they utter. It's ridiculous. What ever happened to freedom of speech in this country? Now it's "Holiday Party" instead of "Christmas Party" and don't offend the blacks, or the whites, or the Koreans. It's humor people, give it a rest!!!!!
Hollywood can say whatever it wants about all them backward, primitive, Bible-thumping Christians. Just don't say anything bad about our gays.
