'The Talk': Let's talk ... what did you think?
"The Talk" debuted Monday (Oct. 18) on CBS. It features a round-table of women who seem to be differentiating themselves (at least initially) from "The View" by focusing on being mothers and providing support for mothers across the country.Executive Producer Sara Gilbert says this of the show's concept, "I went to this second-time moms group ... we started talking about parenting and then eventually we started talking about everything in the world and one day I just thought people across the country need this, this kind of support system."
That's all well and good, but the first episode got off to a bit of a shaky start.
Christie Brinkley was the first guest and while she's a lovely woman, she got put on the spot to give advice to moms and talk about cyber bullying and she seemed unprepared to actually talk about something serious on a talk show.
The show moved on to discussing when it is appropriate to talk to your children about sex. Holly Robinson Peete was the lone voice of reason (Julie Chen seemed to abstain), but the rest of the ladies were proclaiming that using the proper names for sexual organs ("penis" and "vagina") was "gross" and "disgusting." Nevermind that a licensed sex therapist advised that parents do this so as to take away the stigma surrounding the body parts.
The women were also acting like you shouldn't even talk to your kids about sex -- "they'll hear about it from their friends."
Yes. That seems like excellent advice. That won't lead to unplanned pregnancy or STDs at all. Kids should definitely get all their information from their friends.
At the end, after much shouting on the part of Leah Remini about how "disgusting" everything is, Julie Chen suggests that they let schools teach the basics and then the parents can fill in the gaps.
We think that was a cop-out, Chen-bot. Parents need to be involved. Frankly, we can't believe this segment made it to air. It was uninformed yelling by people purporting themselves to be a "support group" for moms.
Overall, we enjoyed Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Sara Gilbert. But Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur were a bit grating -- too loud, too ridiculous. We mean, can we please be adults about having the sex talk with our kids?
If the four former women were the entire panel (plus various guests), we think the show would be much stronger.
What did you think? Did you enjoy "The Talk"?

I refuse to watch anything that has Chen-bot in it because she is a no talent who is screwing the boss. Thank god is off the early show.
I rather enjoyed it. I felt they all had a connection and could feel the bond between them. I wish their topics were a bit more controversial. I like all 6 of them tho. Leah being loud and usual. I like her. But the other girl, Marissa, was rather annoying. but overall i liked it
Sorry, but they cancelled a soap
for this? A bunch of hens clucking over each other? I was waiting for
Leah Remini to lay an egg..
Honestly, this show is like a kiddy version of the view. Loose the two load mouths and maybe
this show will have a chance.
A talk show made up mostly of women where they end up shouting and talking over each other about nonsensical topics...hmmm, where have I heard that before?
I agree that there are way too many hosts. This show is the equivalent of trying to wear six pairs of shoes all at the same time. Epic fail.
I like Holly,Sharon, and Sara..
They need to dump the rest and
quickly. There is a reason the
view only has 5 co-hosts and not 6.
I give the show a season, but don't expect it to last to long.
I'm so tired of seeing Julie Chen
everywhere on CBS. Leah Remini
and Marissa Jaret Winokur were
just very annoying. That alone is
enough for me not to tune back in..sorry but the show stinks.
I find it a bit strange that Leah Remini, a Scientologist, would proclaim about how "disgusting" everything is. Perhaps her "church" has altered her view of things?
Yet another "Liberal View". No thanks.
I thought the show was wonderful. It was funny yet very informative. I cannot wait to see the next show.
I am pretty much a talk show addict - watch virtually every talk show every day - it is how I keep my finger on what's happening in society without having to agree or disagree with the purveyor of the information. From this premier show I must say this is absolutely a disaster. Horrendous across the board. Just look at what they have done. Sharon Osbourne, who is obviously the most interesting personality of the lot had her own talk show a few seasons back. She was up front and center and that failed. So, now they add five deadbeats (Leah is a top sit-com start, not a talk show host) to water down Osbourne, who again, couldn't keep an audience with her own charm and intelligence. As some have already posted here, do you think this would have been a go if CBS bossman Les wasn't married to the host? Not a chance in hell. The Talk will get The Walk by the next cycle of new shows. Yeeeech
I give it 3 Weeks beree there is a 'View' Style Cat fight
