'Saw 3D' scares up $24.2 million at the box office
Jigsaw has lured moviegoers in for the perfect horror/Halloween weekend."Saw 3D" easily took home the most ticket sales in its debut weekend, earning $24.2 million, according to early studio estimates. It was the only new wide release for the week.
The previous week's champ "Paranormal Activity 2" took in a respectable $16.5 million, bringing its cume to $65.7 mil, a huge profit for the low-budget film.
Of note among the indie films is the art documentary "Waste Land," which earned a per-screen average of $11,562, and the post-alien apocalypse film "Monsters," which averaged $10,250 for each of its two screens. Kristen Stewart's "Welcome to the Rileys" only averaged $4,500 per screen.
