Rick Sanchez fired after calling Jon Stewart a 'bigot'
CNN has terminated its working relationship with newscaster Rick Sanchez after some inflammatory comments he made on a satellite radio show."We thank Rick for his years of service," CNN says in a statement Friday (Oct. 1). "And we wish him well."
Sanchez, the 52-year-old host of "Rick's List," had appeared on the radio show "Stand Up! With Peter Dominick" on Thursday (Sept. 30) when he referred to "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart a "bigot."
When asked what exactly Stewart was bigoted towards, Sanchez replied, "Everybody else who's not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?" Later he backed down a bit and changed his language, calling Stewart "prejudiced." Stewart has been known to mock Sanchez frequently on "The Daily Show," calling him "a total meathead."
Sanchez, a Cuban-American, also stated several times that he'd experienced discrimination throughout his career, including at the hands of "a lot of elite Northeast establishment liberals" who saw him as someone "who belongs in the second tier and not the top tier."
When it was pointed out that Stewart as a Jew was a minority "as much as you are," Sanchez replied, "Yeah. Yeah. Very powerless people," adding, "Everybody that runs CNN is a lot like Stewart. And a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart. And to imply that somehow they -- the people in this country who are Jewish -- are an oppressed minority? Yeah."

No replacement has been named for Sanchez yet. "CNN Newsroom" will be broadcast from 3-5 p.m. in place of "Rick's List" for the time being.

When Jon Klein was fired I speculated his promotion and support of Sanchez might have been the last straw. Many CNN viewers resent such attempts to "put lipstick on a pig" expecting to fool us. The only way anyone with a modicum of intelligence could watch "Rick's List" was to watch it as an unwitting self-satire. Nothing is funnier than watching a truly dense person trying to act smart (and thinking he really is - e.g., Mika B.). Of course, you couldn't really do that often or for long. Bye Rick. I think your future is selling used cars in Miami. Unless Faux News wants you.
John Stewart is the clown here, now Sanchez. Stewart followers are the most easily amused imbeciles. No wonder America is a fading country. It gets what it deserves. Stewart's satire is just that, but apparently in intellectual USA, the kids take it seriously.

Rick's two hour boring show is finally gone, thank you Rick, for getting yourself fired. You came across as though you were speaking down to a bunch of 2nd or 3rd graders, but then, anyone with a higher academic achievement than 3rd grade wasn't watching you anyway. Thank you CNN for taking Rick away from Florida (we have enough problems here) and please Fox grab him to keep him targeted by Colbert Report and The Daily Show (and away from Florida). Meanwhile I look forward to Jon's reaction to this. Maybe the Daily Show could track his future career moves on the map like a doppler weather forcast.
