Randy Quaid detained in Canada, wants asylum from 'star whackers'
The saga of Randy and Evi Quaid has taken an even stranger turn -- into Canada. The Oscar-nominated actor and his wife were taken into custody in Vancouver earlier this week on immigration violations. At a hearing Friday (Oct. 22), the couple said they wanted refugee status so they can get away from people who are trying to harm them.
What kind of people? We'll let the Quaids' lawyer explain: "We are requesting asylum from Hollywood star whackers," the attorney told the press during a break in Friday's hearing, according to RadarOnline. He didn't elaborate or take questions.
The Quaids say they fear for their life, citing the "unusual murders" of actors Chris Penn (who died of heart failure in 2006), Heath Ledger (a 2008 overdose) and David Carradine (found hanging from a rope in Thailand last year) and other people close to Quaid.
They were freed on bond after the hearing and ordered to appear again in a Vancouver courtroom on Thursday (Oct. 28).
Meanwhile, the couple still face outstanding warrants in California after skipping a court date in Santa Barbara this week. They were charged in September with squatting in and vandalizing a house in Montecito, Calif. -- a house the Quaids used to own and which they claim they still own. Property records indicate otherwise.
The Santa Barbara case is scheduled to resume Tuesday. Whether the Quaids will be allowed to return to the United States remains to be seen. As for just what is going through the Quaids' minds -- or what a "star whacker" is -- your guess is as good as ours.

OMG, this is so sad....and stupid.
This sounds like two people who have gone over the edge of reality.
Very sad.
The saddest part is they think they're famous enough for people to consider them "stars".
