Melissa Etheridge clarifies statements on her return to dating and single motherhood
Headlines exploded when singer Melissa Etheridge told People Magazine over the weekend that she's ready to date again less than six months after her separation from actress Tammy Lynn Michaels.
"I am ready to date again, I guess," Etheridge told Zap2it after we informed her of the People story. "I think it's very cute that people care about that. I understand it, but I find it cute."
The article invited criticism from at least one source for the singer's statement about how hard it is being a single mother without mentioning her former partners. Etheridge was quick to tell us that her youngest children -- the twins -- spend most of their time with Michaels while she spends a lot of time with her older children from her previous marriage.
Etheridge tells us that she didn't mean to make it seem as if she's raising the children without help and stresses that she couldn't do it without her former partners.
"What I meant was that I feel like a single mother when I'm alone with the kids," she clarifies.

When I was first coming out I loved Melissa. To be truthful, she was one of the few women out there in the main stream.
I was sad when she broke up with Julie and happy for her when she met Tammy. I obviously don't know any of these women personally so I can't say too much... only that when you are a single mother you need to put your kids needs first and worry about things like dating much much much later. From most of her interviews she comes across as a self-absorbed narcicist as she spouts off about love, and self-acceptance and truth. The people who bang their proverbial gongs the loudest are the ones that are the weakest... sooooo sad.
