Katherine Heigl's electronic cigarette just a smoke screen
Katherine Heigl has tried everything to quit her long standing nicotine habit. The patch. The gum. Chantex. Twice.
Now she's smoking electronic ciggies. "I know it's ridiculous, but it's helping me not to actually smoke real cigarettes," she told Parade. "You feel like you are smoking, and you get to exhale but it's just water vapor and not nicotine. I've been doing it for six months. "
Heigl showed former addicted smoker David Letterman how she smokes her electronic cigarette and he got just a little too into the whole concept.
"I'm essentially humidifying the space," she said as she puffed away.
That's great, Katherine. But they may also be harmful since the gadgets are poorly regulated and do deliver small amounts of vaporized nicotine. The FDA has also determined that they also contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, an ingredient used in anti-freeze.
What do you think? Is Katherine still gonna have to sit in the 'smoking is for stupid people' section?

I think this is horrible when a celebrity who is looked up to by the children for their comedic ability and acting skill comes out and endorses a Dangerous Deadly Drug Delivery Device like Electronic Cigarettes. What's next? Is iCarly going to endorse a special syringe for Heroin?
ok... uhhhh... let's see.. Kat says it's water vaper.. dave says.. "but it has nicotine in it?" Kate says "yes" SO... why does the story with this state that she says "but it's just water vapor and not nicotine"
nobody EVER said there wasn't nicotine. as to DEG, (diethylene glycol) the testing showed TRACE almost "undetectable" amounts in ONE of NINETEEN cartridges from ONE of TWO suppliers.. try getting your facts straight before publishing this drivel
You all need to do your research before you post bull like this. Vaping have NEVER been proven dangerous and if you believe the FDA you are all idiots.
Why is her neck so red?
Zap2it is going to have to sit in the stupid section!
Nicotine is not what hurts smokers. Burning tobacco and inhaling the smoke is what hurts smokers! Electronic cigarettes do not burn anything and they produce no smoke.
The level of carcinogens in electronic cigarettes is the same as what's found in pharmaceutical nicotine gums, lozenges and patches. It is medically insignificant.
Diethylene glycol is NOT an ingredient used in electronic cigarette liquid. The FDA tested a handful of samples that came from CHINA and found one of those samples to be contaminated with a small amount of it (not even enough to be considered dangerous, though).
Liquid used in electronic cigarettes contain PROPYLENE glycol, which is considered safe by the FDA. It's used in everything from medicines to toothpaste to moisturizers.
There is no question by ANYONE in the medical community that Nicotine hurts smokers! It's a Stimulant that raises blood pressure while also being a vasoconstrictor, it constricts blood vessels, it also causes the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood!! Its one of the MAIN causes of heart disease on this planet!
And those pharmaceutical nicotine gums, lozenges and patches are not meant to be used long term, the amount of carcinogens IS medically insignificant, but so is that of a hot dog, if you ate hot dogs or used the pharmaceutical nicotine cessation aides to the level you smoke Electronic Cigarettes, it changes just how significant those levels are.
Electronic Cigarettes are just another fad that will eventual prove to be as dangerous or more so then smoking, its a shame that the very few of you using them don't realize this, or are these comments just to up your sales?
As a former 2 pack a day/25 years smoker, I can understand the addiction however having said that I have been smokefree for almost 7 years. It can be done but it does take dedication and you have to want to quit. Hopefully she will quit before her child picks it up.
Well it may be a fad and bad for you, but hey it helped me quit smoking. Theya re the most effective quit smoking tool on the market now
Regarding nicotine being a stimulant and vasoconstrictor, so is caffeine, and nicotine is about as harmful as caffeine as well. Do you demonize caffeine in the same fashion you are doing for nicotine right now?
If you look closely at the ingredients of what is in the vapor, you'll see it is coming from an ingredient used in plastics. A very harmful ingredient that was never meant to be inhaled. I looked it up. Without the vapor, then it's just a way to get nicotine in the system which might help the user to cut down or get rid of the habit. That vapor could be deadly.
