Kate Norley engaged to 'The Daily Show's' John Oliver

John Oliver, the 33-year-old British "Daily Show" correspondent, popped the question to his girlfriend of two years Kate Norley during a July trip to the Caribbean, People reports.

Oliver met Norley, an Iraq War vet, at the 2008 Republican National Convention, which Oliver was covering for "The Daily Show" and at which Norley was campaigning. Norley has been off active duty for awhile, but enjoys the platform Oliver has through his work on "The Daily Show."

"I was a medic in the Army," she explains. "It was difficult, but right now it's nice that I get to spend time with the love of my life."

"It's the most emasculating thing I could possibly do to go out with someone who has actually done something valuable with their life," Oliver jokes

"He's got a forum," Norley says on a more serious note. "We still have troops on the ground. No matter whether there are two or 200,000, we have to make sure our hearts and minds are with what they're doing." 

The couple plans to wed in 2011. Congratulations, John and Kate!
