Justin Bieber, MTV reviving 'Punk'd' -- for real

After a three-year rest, "Punk'd" may be returning to MTV in the near future -- with none other than Justin Bieber as its lead prankster.The Bieb has been "all but officially tapped" to serve as host of the revival of the hidden-camera prank show, Vulture reports. Some details -- not the least of which is fitting the show into Bieber's schedule -- have yet to be worked out, but if that happens, the show's return is likely in the relatively near future.
Ashton Kutcher, who created the show and hosted the first incarnation, will be an executive producer of the revival. In its first run, the show played pranks on the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Katie Holmes, Matthew Perry and dozens of other celebs. It will be up to Bieber and Co. to find a new crop of gullible famous people.
When MTV and Kutcher decided to end the show in 2007, the thinking was that the hidden-camera concept had kind of played itself out. We'll see whether three years and change, plus Bieber, is enough to re-energize it.

Aaron, have you ever watched Punk'd? The host isn't one of the actors directly doing the pranks; all Bieber's work, presumably, would be behind the scenes (if he's involved in the planning/execution of the pranks the way Kutcher was, at least early on) and in intro segments taped separately from the gags themselves. Announcing him as host won't ruin anything. How do you think Punk'd managed to work for several seasons with everyone knowing Kutcher was the host? They had to change their cast of regular actors practically every season to maintain the element of surprise.
