I guess there should be but I watched the show and besides there lifestyle they seem like really normal people and they do a great job of taking care of the family and if none of the kids or wives are complaining then it shouldn't be an issue to anyone what goes on.
It's illegal, and TV shouldn't be glorifying that lifestyle by making them TV stars. Reality TV only causes problems --- and needs to be put in check as well.
When a mother and father can use their 8 or more kids to make money that they kids will never see, something's terribly wrong.
What's next? A real life show about gay marriages? It's a slippery slope we're on, people! Wake up!
Polygamist families take thousands of dollars in government resources to finance their lifestyle. That is the real crime!
Polygamist families get thousands of dollars in government (technically our) resources to finance their lifestyle. That's the real crime!
nancy last I checked gay marriage wasn't illegal in all 50 states, in fact it is unconstitutional to ban gay marriage.
I knew it was just too good to be legal..There is going to be a special on this tonight on a show called "Issues" (headline news channel?). They are supposed to be giving new information on this. So bizarre!
I am not against this nor for this. BUT these families all live in the same house, just seperated by different living quarters. BESIDES when you are technailly LEGALLY married to one person the other marriages are null and void. Who cares if he is married to 1 or to 10. After all, the children are taken care of. The house is clean, the kids are clean, the individuals are happy. Sure they are living different lives, but whats the difference than this or simply a man that has three different families or four even. NONE DIFFERENT THAN GUYS GOING OUT AND HAVING TEN KIDS WITH DIFFERENT WOMEN. I would say its best to leave well enough alone. besideds Utah is practically "infested" with families where they have more than one wive, but LOL what about having more than one husband? anyway, it is interesting to know how they do it, and make it work? I say leave em alone and if they are not hurting their children, or anything like that, why bother and fuss about it. After all there are better things that need more attention that some man who is sleeping with four different women.
I believe that a true marriage is made of 1 woman and 1 man who are faithful to each other, both in thought and in deed. This is a simple yet noble achievement to which we should aspire. It is not a union of 1 man and 1 wife, then the same man and a 2nd female (legally cannot be called a wife, 2nd or otherwise); then this same male again with a 3rd female and upcoming a possible 4th female.
If the tables were turned, so to speak, and a woman began building relationships like this with first 1 husband, then another male along with the same female and the husband; another male yet again, and so on, I don't think men would feel this arrangement would be quite as appealing overall. The majority of men like to have people believe that they are 'open-minded and easy going' on a wide variety of topics. The sad truth is that in most cases concerning this topic, they are only open-minded when the multiple partners are females with 1 male and not the other way around.
Yes, there are many better topics to give our attention to as well, as an earlier comment stated. But, I believe this is also an important one to bring to the light of day. We need to see and learn ALL information and then decide for ourselves. We also have a responsibility to our children about what they should be allowed access to on the internet and on tv. In order to do a proper job of this though, we need to see both sides of the issue, even as distasteful as it may be to some.
I just think it says something about the intelligence of these people that they would star in a show about currently engaging in something which is illegal in the United States. It's like developing a reality show about how you love to use pot, rip off your employer, or abuse your spouse. They obviously are not uncomfortable with it, but if they're going to try to make a quick buck off of their lifestyle by turning it into an (alternate) reality show, they shouldn't be surprised when the law comes calling.
I personally do not have a problem with this poligamist family. The ladies are adults, educated, and two of them have jobs. I have problems with fifty and sixty year old men who marry underage uneducated girls and then once these girls start having children send them to the government for welfare.
