Rachel Brown, 'Hell's Kitchen' chef, also committed suicide
Joseph Cerniglia is not the first suicide that has a connection to Gordon Ramsay's cooking shows. Rachel Brown, a chef on Gordon Ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen," also committed suicide. Brown, who finished fifth on the second season of "Kitchen," shot herself in her family's home in Dallas in 2007.Is this some kind of reality-cooking-show trend? "My guess is that both of these people had major problems before appearing on the show," Dr. Robert Yufit, former president of the American Academy of Suicidology, tells CBS News. "I would almost bet that the show itself should not be held responsible. I would say that the show might have tripped off something else that was going on in their lives."
He also says that their chosen methods of suicide indicate that they were determined to die. "Shooting yourself and jumping off a bridge are extreme situations where death is almost a certainty. That's not the case with pills and other, less violent forms of self-harm," says Yufit.

cannot stand gordon ramsay's arrogance nor the show. it even makes me uptight just watching it. i prefer entertainment that relaxes life is stressful enough so drop the show. most reality shows are horrid hell's kitchen is the worst. sadly, too many children are watching these shows and think the bad behavior is acceptable particularly in poorly educated families. the wrong people committed suicide.
If too many kids are watching the show....then the parents need to STEP UP! That's like saying it's NASCAR's fault that my son got a speeding ticket! Are you kidding me?
If you don't like what is on the channel.... you have the God given ability to change the channel.
Quit placing blame on others. These two people obviously had underlying issues and to blame it on a tv show is moronic.
wow, so sad, Gordon Ramsey you now have to live with this for the rest of your life.
Gordon Ramsey had NOTHING to do with these deaths. Your a bunch of idiots. If you want to place blame, it the economy. You work your butt off and between socialized medicine and high taxes nothing is left. Both these deaths are obviously economy related. The both went on a GAME show to make it big. As with any competition there can be only one winner. Gordan Ramsey is a great chef and a businessman. He has had several business failures and relates to these struggling chefs. Don't cast blame without knowing the facts. He is a hard on his chefs, but so are many coaches and parents. Do you blame them too. Suicide is a last resort. Many are because of depression or to escape. This is a clearly cases were debts and depression lead to this tragic end.
Gordon Ramsey is brutally honest, but IT IS NOT HIS FAULT that these two people killed themselves. They obviously had issues before the shows and were not happy in their lives. He has nothing to regret.
Just before he jumped he screamed Gordon Ramsey ruined my life.
Joseph Cerniglia was on Kitchen Nightmares in 2007. This is 2010. It's absolutely ludicrous for anyone to claim a link between Mr. Cerniglia's death and Gordon Ramsay.
excuse me for my poor Enlish, but did Gordon Ramsey tell them to kill themselve?
I dont know why everyone wants to blame it on Ramsey and his big arrogance but thats not fair. They did this and nobody told them to jump or shoot herself through her head, Joseph was on Belgium television with Kitchen Nightmares and they are also sending Hells Kitchen , just like the last time when they showed hells kitchen, i f think that rachel had to much arrogance and Joseph, i feel sorry for his relatives, but there are other ways to go on with your live instead of going the easy way, because the easy way makes you dont have to think of anything anymore.
Selfish people , to put this on the shoulders of your family
Yet another reason to despise the blight that is reality TV.
How much money does the show make off these "contestants"? What share of that profit do the contestants reap?
Yeahyeahyeah, they sign contracts, blablabla.
The REAL reality is these shows thrive on humiliating people. And the sole reason they exist is because the producers are driven by Greed Greed Greed. They exploit people and contribute to cruelty & to a decline in compassion for others. They create a surreal voyeurism & promote judmentalism. They are poisonous.
