'Easy A' Penn Badgley liked being naked from the waist up, painted blue
"Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley has definitely got his eye on a big screen career. "Most actors do TV as a platform," he admits. "Whether or not you can utilize it as a platform is another thing. But for me, yeah.".
In his case, the plan is definitely working.
The Dish Rag caught up with Badgley at the L.A. junket for his quirky high school black comedy, "Easy A," also starring Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci, Emma Stone, and Amanda Bynes, But Penn also talked about his other far more dramatic (and more adult) film, "Margin Call," that he shot in Manhattan when "GG" was on hiatus.
"I had a fantastic time and it was such a great learning experience," he said of working with heavy hitters like Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, Demi Moore and Jeremy Irons in the Wall Street film about the inner workings -- and failings -- of the Goldman Sachs investment corporation
But in "Easy A", an amusing comedy about high school cliques and rumors, he kept it light with a shirtless scene, a la "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner. And being naked from the waist up --- even painted blue -- was better than wearing a steamy woodchuck costume.
On his shirtless scenes when he's painted blue as the football team's mascot,
"Blue is more free, i was naked from the waist up except for the paint. The woodchuck outfit was very hot, heavy, so it was a bit much and it was the middle of the summer in Ojai. If that's the worst my job gets, that's a blessing but there were points when it was pretty bad."
On "Margin Call", which takes place in one day:
"It is fictional but a historically accurate account of the 24 hour period when Goldman Sachs realized that the shit was hitting the fan. It's a look at the personal tragedies for those guys."
On the new season of "Gossip Girl":
"Season Four is bigger and better. We're in Paris, there's a baby, a gunshot wound, a brush with death and, I think, a wedding. I can't be more specific because they're funny about that but there's a lot coming and I think people will be excited."
