Who wrote Chelsea Clinton's wedding poem: 'The Life That I Have'
Chelsea Clinton and her new husband Marc Mezvinsky read a moving and romantic poem to each other as they said their wedding vows on Saturday (July 31). It's entited "The Life That I Have" and it was was written by the British poet Leo Marks (1920-2001). Marks composed the poem on Christmas Eve 1943 in memory of his girlfriend, who had just died in a plane crash in Canada.
But in March of 1944, the poem was issued by Marks to Violette Szabo, a French agent of Special Operations Executive who was eventually captured, tortured and killed by the Nazis. It was made famous by its inclusion in the 1958 movie about her, called "Carve Her Name with Pride."
Now the poem will have a new life after getting the exposure from having been read at Chelsea Clinton's wedding. No doubt it will be used as a wedding poem again and again, now that so people have heard about it.

Is yours
The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours
A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours
