Jennifer Aniston 'like a retard'? In choice of words, maybe.

First Jennifer Aniston got into a war of words with Bill O'Reilly over comments she made about artificial insemination while promoting her new film, "The Switch."

Now she' used an unfortunate word that is bound to create an uproar. After a Thursday (Aug 19) appearance on "Good Morning America," Aniston sat down with Regis Philbin and guest co-host Kristin Cruz on  "Live! With Regis & Kelly" and let a controversial word slip out. No, not the one Laura Schlessinger used 11 times.

While talking about her Barbra Streisand-inspired photo shoot for Harper's Bazaar, Regis said, "So you got to play dress up," to which Jennifer joking responded, "Yeah, I got to play dress up. ... I do it for a living, like a retard."

Oh, dear. There's bound to be fall-out over that choice of words. There always is.

Remember when there was a huge furor over the use of the R-word in "Tropic Thunder"?

Disability advocates and Special Olympics officials actually picketed the movie's premiere. Timothy Shriver called for a boycott even though he hadn't actually seen the film.

And Sarah Palin recently criticized Rahm Emanuel for using the R-word but let her pal Rush Limbaugh slide because he said he was doing "satire."

Is Jen drafting up her apology right this minute?

You know what this story is? Retarded.

People are way too sensitive in this country. I think it stems from "pop psychology" and the message that the media sends, that everyone ought to feel good about themselves. Get over it. Anyone who gets offended by this is a "retard".

Retarded means 'slower than normal'. It certainly wasn't the correct use of the word in Aniston's response. I doubt she was thinking it through when she made that response--like most of us when we say something 'off the cuff.' I wouldn't crucify her for this, but I would hope she'd be way more sensitive in the future.

L'Chaim, Jerusalem!

Yes, she should apologize. Most people in this day and age are more aware of the use of this word. Generally, it's not even used as a term in special education because it's so negative. The word itself just means slower than normal--not anything to get all up-in-arms about, but when a high-profile person uses it in this manner, it's definitely got a negative connotation. I'm sure she meant that she's 'playing dress-up' for a living--like a goof ball. To my knowledge, (and I'm a special ed teacher), people with low IQs are no more likely to play dress-up for a living than anyone else--probably even less so since they don't have the money for the fancy duds! Let Jen apologize and move on.

*******

I think this is retarded and I think retards must die hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Some of you people are so mean. The word "retard" is incredibly offensive and not just to those with disabilities. I don't make a big deal out of it when I hear the word, but I don't understand why people are so against taking one word out of their vocabularies.

Wow. What a bunch of of ignorant a-holes. Especially the ones who don't even have the balls to use any name but "Anonymous." Karma's a *****, you chickensh*ts.

Who cares? Retards don't get it anyway.
