Greta Van Susteren apologizes for suspicious photo mix-up

greta-van-susteren-sherrod-appology.jpgThe maliciously edited Shirley Sherrod video was a pretty big mess for TV news, but at least networks managed to escape taking all the blame. The same can't be said for FOX News' Greta Van Susteren, whose show made "a doozy of a mistake" on Monday by flashing footage of Sherrod while discussing California Democrat Maxine Waters' alleged ethical violations.

Now, this might be an understandable mistake if these women resembled each other in any way other than the color of their skin.

Susteren took to her blog to explain what went wrong:

"What happened?" she writes, "I hate to tell you but we need to fess up to this one.   Somehow when we were talking about Congresswoman Maxine Waters during the news show, tape went up on our screen of Shirley Sherrod and not Congresswoman Waters.  Yes, a very bad mistake and a painful one for which we are very apologetic."

A nice apology, sure, but not much of an explanation. Do tapes just pop up on screen at America's most-watched cable news channel?

I believe her. Things happen like that all the time on other networks.

Is it Black people who all look alike or Republicans?

Ryan, you are full of ****.

This only happens on FOX and LOTS OF TIMES. For being #1 you'd think they'd could afford to not have these kinds of "accidents" that happen ALL THE TIME.

I see news reports accidently throw in the wrong footage all the time. Sounds like people are just digging really deep to try and make a big deal out of nothing.

Thanks Osbro!

@stop the rumor mill Well I guess you never watch the news because this is a common thing to happen. I bet you can find footage at Youtube of other networks doing the same thing!

It's not a big deal.

Who CARES? It was obviously an honest mistake. Even if it was an honest mistake by someone who might be latently racist, so what? Should we out 'em and string 'em up? Or, should we just get over it? Big deal. Somebody at Fox is (maybe) racist, or can't distinguish between different black women. There are far more important things to be concerned about...

I have a screen shot of a Fox weather map that has the abbreviation "WY" over the state of Wisconsin.

Also remember those days when "cops" would call in to Fox during some breaking news event and spam the heck out of them live? haha..

they dont give a hoot about truth they are tabloid junky freaks who want the scoop...

I honestly cannot believe this is even a story. Does Zap2it really hate Fox News that much that they'd have to create a story out of nothing? Stuff like this happens all the time. It was a simple mix up. I've seen it happen on CNN repeatedly. Anyone who watches Greta's show knows that she wouldn't do something like this purposely. She's not that kind of reporter.

Wow, amazing. They really do look alike. An easy mistake on the part of Fox News. The other day when I saw Samantha Morton in Minority Report and Megan Fox (in that Transformers movie that was bad) I noticed something... they are totally similar! They are twins I tell you. Twins!

How many of you could pick out either women if a series pictures were laid out in front of you?

Heck, a majority of the population couldn't even tell you who the Secretary of State is. And she's more important than these two women.

Also, I bet there are no racists at CNN, MSNBC or any other network just Fox News. Seriously?

The term racist is thrown around so much it's becoming meaningless.
