Emmys 2010: 'Dexter's' Julie Benz ponders dealing with red-carpet comfort

julie-benz-comic-con-2010-gi.jpgRecent scorching temperatures in the Los Angeles area -- climbing well into the triple-digits in many places -- are supposed to break for the weekend.

This means that the red carpet at Sunday's (Aug. 29) 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, held at the Nokia Theater, may not be quite the sweltering oven that it was last year.

But the actresses still have to pose in the glare of the sun, and even if the air is relatively cool, that can wreak havoc on carefully applied makeup.

In a Tuesday chat with Zap2it "Dexter" actress Julie Benz pondered the challenges of looking good in difficult circumstances.

As a woman who favors hats and umbrellas while walking in the harsh Southern California sun, Benz says, "I'm actually trying to figure out how I could work a parasol into the red carpet at the Emmys, because that red carpet is a nightmare.

"My stylist and everybody is like, 'Don't you dare!', and I'm like, 'They're right.'"

Benz says she's wearing a "beautiful" dress by Pamella Roland, which she describes as "white and tight," adding, "White's making a comeback."

Of course, white also goes well with a tan.

"Which I don't have," says Benz. "I have to go get a spray one.I have to try to fit that into my schedule. I don't have any time, though. I don't know what I'm going to do, because I'm working."

As for footwear, she says, "I haven't gotten shoes yet. Probably silver. That's what my stylist says. I'm putting it all in her hands, and I'm letting her make the decisions."

Benz has had to deal before with tough conditions on the awards-show carpet, where an actor may be photographed more in a single afternoon than for months at a time.

"Last year I had one of those handheld portable fans," she says of the 2009 Emmys. "This past year at the Golden Globes, it was pouring rain, and they didn't cover the carpet, so we all had umbrellas, and we looked silly."
