Christina Aguilera's 'Burlesque' trailer: The next 'Glitter'?

Christina Aguilera's first move as a movie star is "Burlesque," about a small-town girl who books a one-way ticket to Los Angeles and, upon revealing her surprising singing voice, finds herself becoming a star. Think Mariah Carey's "Glitter," but set in a burlesque club, or Britney Spears' "Crossroads" without the road trip.

We know... you're not exactly rushing to pre-order those movie tickets, are you?

Aguilera has one thing that Mariah and Britney didn't have: Cher. The legendary diva plays a washed-up showgirl with a cynical attitude about the business until Aguilera's character shows her the light. Judging by the trailer, Cher's talents seem to be relegated to cheesy lines like "When you're putting on your makeup it's like you're an artist, but instead of painting a canvas, you're painting your face."

As for Aguilera's acting chops, it's hard to tell from the trailer whether she'll be worth watching. We did love her when she hosted "Saturday Night Live," but we're not sure that melodrama is her forte. Along with Cher, she's working with "Twilight's" Cam Gigandet and the always fabulous Kristen Bell, so here's hoping she can stand up to the crowd.

Keep your eye out for a brief appearance from "Grey's Anatomy's" Eric Dane. He's too hot to be playing the creepy older man, isn't he?

Gotta say, looks pretty good. Good cast. I'll download it. =)

Actually, it looks almost identical to Showgirls rather than the other films cited. There's the whole "move to the big city to make it big" angle, the "veteran diva making it hard on the newbie" angle, obviously the sexy dancing angle (which by the way may be enough to get people in the theatres - especially if Kirsten Bell gets in on the action, heck there's even by the looks of things the "you're better than this" male muse. The only difference is the singing, and the fact Cher is in the house. Hopefully this one won't be marketed in 10 years in "special party edition" DVD box sets with a "pin the pasties on the stripper" game like Showgirls was.

I'm not sold on Christina's acting, other than that it doesn't look...bad. If nothing else, the supporting cast is awesome.

I don't believe your comparison is far. From what I saw in the trailer the movie looks like a winner. With a Holiday release and added star power and excellent supporting cast this movie should do well. My first thought was towards the magic of DreamGirls not any of the box office failures you compared it to.

Of course you had to mention Mariah Carey just to add much needed buzz to an otherwise ho-hum release. How juvenile.

This movie will suck as did Glitter as did Crossroads as did ShowGirls... Give me a break its the same crap. And don't forget the long list of bad Madonna movies...

A cheesy flick with a sad case of wasted talent trying to be sexy for men and money. Viola! Thanks for helping to undo years worth of womens' rights by selling your body and making legions of young girls feel insecure, instead of showing men you are worth so much more than your cleavage and have legitimate skills! Owning your sexuality is one thing. Selling your sexuality is where women become a bought and sold commodity for pigs. Viva la sexism, eh Hollywood?
