Brett Favre reportedly not returning to Minnesota Vikings

Brett Favre's Vikings career may be at an end.

The famed quarterback will not return to the Minnesota Vikings for a second season, according to an AP source.

So far, the team has not made an official announcement, but the anonymous source claims that Favre, 40, is bowing out because of his injury.

Favre reportedly called coach Brad Childress to inform him that surgery and rehab hadn't done its magic on his ankle, which he injured during the championship against the New Orleans Saints in 2009.

"Brett Favre began telling Vikings officials last night he will NOT return for a 20th season," reads a tweet Tuesday (Aug. 3) by Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

In the past, Favre has been known to make last-minute decisions, joining the Vikings last year even though he initially said he wouldn't. Fans are hoping that he'll use the same M.O. this year, saying he won't and then signing on again.

An official press release is expected by the end of the day.
