Jay Baruchel on love scenes: 'What sucks about making out with a pretty girl?'
Zap2it caught up with Jay Baruchel on Tuesday (July 13) right after he chatted with Sam Rubin on the KTLA News Morning Show.
Let's get to the juicy part first. How does shy Jay deal with all the love scenes he faces in films these days? After all that "She's Out of My League" nookie, he gets to snog the lips fantastic in "Sorcerer" with love interest Teresa Palmer, who's a spot-on cross between Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson,
"Uh, I uh. Well, you know, I grew up watching people in interviews saying love scenes are mechanical and no fun and blah, blah, blah. What sucks about making out with a pretty girl? Sum it up in that. Sometimes my job is awesome."
As he finishes, a 6.0 quake hits the green room (Just kidding. It was only a painting that dislodged from the top of the sofa No harm done). He quickly recovers and insists he doesn't try out different techniques in love scenes. "No, I'm a gentleman, he says. "But it's not a terrible thing to kiss a pretty girl. Better than kissing an ugly guy."
When we last talked to Jay, it was at the recent junket for "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" with his costar Nic Cage. Nic admired my skull print Flip Cam and after the interview, we compared skull tatts.
I'm not saying where mine are located but Nic's red and orange skull (the one that I saw) was on his left arm and it was done by the famous tatt artist Bob Roberts at Spotlight Tattoo on Melrose (He also did one of mine! Small tatt world).
So naturally, I had to insist on seeing Jay's Canadian maple leaf tattoo over his heart after he revealed it on KTLA. He explained that he got the maple leaf after he'd been in LA for a while when he was 21 or 22 and was really homesick.
He also has morbid thoughts about dying and not being able to go home ever again. So he thought the maple leaf might be a way to let everyone know where he wanted to be buried. "It's like a 'made in China' stamp," he offered.
Jay's heading off later this week to his fave European city Edinburgh, Scotland (he loves the city's creepy underground tour), a city he says rivals Montreal for pure beauty and to London and to Barcelona, Spain, where the country will probably still be celebrating their amazing World Cup win.
I have to admit that I'm totally with Jay about his summer movie must-sees: "The Expendables" and "Inception."
But I suggest you put "Sorcerer's Apprentice" on top of your summer movie list. Like I said, even my mom thought it rocked. And she doesn't even know Jay!

I wrote before that I really liked the movie. Jay is a perfect partner for Nic. Hope they act together again.
