'Scream 4' drafts new scribe for rewrites; Hayden Panetierre not pleased with 'dumbed down' role [UPDATED]
All is not well in Woodsboro. As we previously reported, significant script changes have created some tension on the set of "Scream 4."Lauren Graham's role was so reduced that she dropped out of the project, sources close to the production tell Zap2it. [UPDATE: According to The Wrap, Graham's publicist says she dropped out of the film due to "scheduling conflicts."] Now it appears that Hayden Panetierre's part has changed as well... and who's at fault may surprise you.
Zap2it has also learned that the slasher flick's script is now in the hands of Ehren Kruger, not the creator of the franchise, Kevin Williamson.
In fact, word is that Williamson's involvement with the project has come to an end entirely -- meaning "Scream 5" is a no-go at this time.
Kruger's writing resume includes "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "The Ring," and more significantly, "Scream 3." While the first two "Scream" movies, penned by Williamson, were adored by fans and critics alike, "Scream 3" was... well, not.
Hayden Panettiere's role, which one source says "used to be really sharp" has now been "dumbed down significantly." The actress is "beyond frustrated with the changes." Another source says that Lake Bell, who had to drop out of "Scream 4" due to scheduling changes, "dodged a bullet."
To make up for the actors that have dropped out of the production, Alison Brie, Marley Shelton, Erik Knudson, and Adam Brody have all signed on recently.
What gives, Wes Craven? You're supposed to butcher Ghostface's victims... not the script.
UPDATE: Our apologies, Mr. Craven. The director/producer commented on our story via Twitter. "@Zap2it I have not been given control of the script. #SCREAM4," he writes.

UPDATE: As of 2:00 p.m. PST on July 2, a rep for "Scream 4" tells us they will have official comment as soon as possible. As of the publishing of this update, we have not received comment.

He wrote Transformers 2???? I didn't realize that even had a script.
why would you bring back someone who has written nothing but terribly received movies? I loved the first transformers, but the second one, well honestly, it SUCKED as did Scream 3. I was excited when Kevin was writing it, now i probably will not waste my time.
...I was really excited about this movie but seriously ALOT of bad signs lately and with this I guarantee they turn this into a dumbass "comedy" laced-script with no story (a.k.a Transformers 2)
not good.
Why the hell do you guys post such garbage? I thought you people were better than that zap2it.com! You guys turning into a gossip rag now. There is no truth to this. So everyone pay no attention.
I don't know screamfan, Kevin Williamson tweeted, "So nice to sushi with you @cadlymack and get to know you" on June 29th. Cadlymack is Carina McKenzie's twitter account if that wasn't obvious. Shortly after this alleged "sushi" Carina starts publishing negative stories revolving around scream4 crediting a "source close to the production". Curiosuly the tweet happy Williamson hasn't publicly made any mention of scream4 since he turned in the script some time ago. This story is looking legit, unfortunately. Truly hope I'm wrong.
Pretty much everything in this article is fabricated nonsense. What's the point of it? Just to get people talking? bs
Dear Editor,
I made the last comment and probably should have checked my facts first myself.
It's obviously a new story.
I'm not happy about it, but it doesn't make it less true.
I just hope it isn't, as someone who was looking forward to this film a lot.
Apologies for being one of those internet a**holes who is too quick to post a rant that could potentially damage the credibility of someone in the eyes of others, without checking my facts first.
Thanks for responding.

As the editor of the Zap2it site, I stand by every one of our original stories and the sourcing or else it wouldn't be on our site. Zap2it is governed by the exact same editorial guidelines as our sister publications sites such as Los Angeles Times Online (which I also edited for three years prior to joining Zap2it). I wouldn't approve or have green lit any original report or story on this site if I wasn't willing to stand by it 100%. The notion that we would just fabricate anything on Zap2it is completely inaccurate. Please feel free to email me directly for any further inquiries about any of our stories. I welcome the feedback about Zap2it any time and am happy to discuss with any of our readers. We always welcome discussion with our community.
