Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem tie the knot

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem got married earlier this month, and though news about their union is just getting out now, we think we have a sense of how things went down.

We're envisioning shafts of light and choirs of angels and the like, because Cruz and Bardem are, no two ways about it, blessed in the looks department. Just sayin'.

The 36-year-old Cruz and the 41-year-old Bardem, who have been a couple for about three years, were wed in a small ceremony in the Bahamas, according to several reports. It's the first marriage for both of the Oscar winners.

The couple has managed to keep their relationship private for the most part. They wouldn't confirm reports that they were engaged last year, and rarely even acknowledged they were dating. Cruz has called her new hubby "a good friend and the best actor in the world" in the past.

They've known each other for a good 18 years, since they first worked together on the 1992 Spanish film "Jamon, Jamon." They also co-starred in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," for which Cruz won a best supporting actress Oscar. Bardem won his Academy Award for "No Country for Old Men."
