Father and brother of Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad threaten to kill her
Afshan Azad, who has played Padma Patil in the "Harry Potter" series since 2005's "Goblet of Fire," is having some crazy family troubles. The 22-year-old actress's father and brother have been charged with threatening to kill her, says the Daily Mail. The altercation occurred at the family home in Manchester, England. In addition to threatening her, Afshan's brother, 28-year-old Ashraf, is also accused of physically assaulting Afshan and "causing her bodily harm."
The men faced charges in court on June 30 at Manchester Magistrates' Court. The case was adjourned until July 12.
According to People, Afshan's Muslim family was angry about her relationship with a Hindu man. As part of the pair's bail conditions, they must not contact an unknown man and must abide by an 11 p.m. - 6 a.m. curfew.
Afshan is said to be staying with friends in London.

That's so sad:( I sure hope everything works out for her. All I can say is God bless and protect you Afshan.
This girl is lucky she wasn't the victim of an "honour killing". This is another sad case of Islam treating women as beasts of burden and as the property of their fathers, brothers, husbands etc, to be abused, beaten and even killed at will. When will we wake up and stop tolerating this barbarism in our midst?
To HPFAN - When you say "God bless and protect you Afshan", I hope you don't mean Allah, in which case she will be stoned to death in order to finish the honor killing her family started.
I do not think anyone should give this family incident a religious or gender discrimination tone.
All of us who are parents and have teenage and young adult children will have difference of opinion which can blow into a heated argument.
I am very disappointed the way Afshan has reported her father and brother to police for threatening to kill her. Very sad. I wonder if success and fame has gone to her head. I know many kids 21- 22 who are qualifying as doctors, engineers, scientist etc and are so humble. Sorry to be judgemental but I am beginning to think acting is bad. If she has done it in the heat of the moment she must be feeling wretched and guilty. That’s a great reward for raising a daughter with love and affection. I know that teenage and young girls can be difficult, rebellious and challenging. More disappointing and frustrating is the way the media is turning it into a religious scandal like honour killing and a glaring example of Muslim male oppression of females.
I think Azad is a very progressive man and not fanatic or extreme in anyway. Afshan was 16 yrs old when she got the Padma Patil role in Harry Potter and her father has encouraged and supported her in this.
A good parent will love children and set some firm ground rules for them. Don’t we see enough carnage from children who are left loose and their parents do not know or care what the children are doing or when they come home and who they associate with?
Please stop making mountain out of a mole hill. Let the family heal the rift.
"I am very disappointed the way Afshan has reported her father and brother to police for threatening to kill her."
Are you kidding me?? Why the hell wouldn't she report it?! Just because they are family? I can't stand that line of argument and it's been aimed at me a few times in my life - that I should "forgive and forget" the man who molested me and hurt me and threatened my life just because he was "family"!
Hannah,
"I am very disappointed the way Afshan has reported her father and brother to police for threatening to kill her. Very sad. I wonder if success and fame has gone to her head."
What makes you think she is lying? I've read numerous articles on this story and, even though there are no direct quotes and released photos of possible injuries, I do not get the sense that this just a teenager blowing an argument out of proportion. I would also not make the judgment that "success and fame has gone to her head" when she is simply a supporting actress, if that.
"That’s a great reward for raising a daughter with love and affection."
Do you know this family personally to say that?
"I think Azad is a very progressive man and not fanatic or extreme in anyway. Afshan was 16 yrs old when she got the Padma Patil role in Harry Potter and her father has encouraged and supported her in this."
Again, do you know this family personally? That is a rather strong and personal statement to say about people you've never met, if that's the case.
From what I can tell from your post, you must be Muslim and defending yet another example of your religions barbarism. If not, your contempt for teenage girls and willingness to support their abusive families is disgusting. And the fact that you are a parent genuinely disturbs me and brings me to question your parenting skills when it comes to teenagers.
Although this wasn't meant to be a mean reply at all, your ignorance really astounded me and especially as a parent, for your to side with her father and brother really and truly makes me hope for the safety of the children in your home.
Another example of how "loving" and "inclusive" Islam is.
