Emmys: Joel McHale on 'Community' snub, shocks and his Emmy awards ticket

Joel McHale and Sofia Vergara had the honor of announcing the Emmy nominees Thursday (July 8) morning. And for getting up at the proverbial crack of dawn (darn those East Coast morning shows), one might think he would have at least received a nomination for himself or his show, "Community."

After all, Vergara got a nod for best supporting actress in a comedy, and the cast of her ABC show "Modern Family" sitcom got a bunch more, including a nod for best comedy series. But McHale? Zip. Bupkis.

The Dish Rag commiserated with McHale, who explained, "We're just happy to be on the air" and talked about the "awesome" new shows he's psyched about ("Glee" and "Modern Family"), his happiness about Julia Louis-Dreyfus getting a final nomination for "Old Christine," "Mad Men", Bryan Cranston and Conan O'Brien getting nods and whether or not he'll even get a ticket the actual Emmy Awards.

Hey, he did so well reading names (he even helped Vergara at one point) on Thursday that we're pushing for him to be a presenter.

And Joel, we're so with you on "Band of Brothers" being the best miniseries ever. We got to meet the awesome real soldiers portrayed in the HBO series during the press train trip from Paris to Normandy back in 2000. "The Singing Detective" -- starring Michael Gambon, a nominee this year for the "Masterpiece" adaptation of "Emma" -- is definitely our No. 2 pick as well.

What's coming up for "Community"? McHale reveals that he just finished a table read for the first show of the new season and "Everyone dies. It's kind of like "Hamlet."

Even the 19-year-old girl he was making out with in the first-season cliffhanger? We'll have to wait and see.

Joel McHale rules! I remember watching him on Almost Live back in the day, and think it's awesome that he's just as snarky in Community! Shame it didn't get nom'd this year, but I'm sure it will in the future!
