Carrie Underwood's wedding to Mike Fisher is very heavily guarded. Um, why?

mike-fisher-carrie-underwood.jpgUPDATE: Underwood and Fisher exchanged vows Saturday evening in an outdoor ceremony at the resort.

"We could not feel more blessed to have found each other and to have shared this day with our friends and family that mean so much to us!" the couple says in a statement to People.

Original post is below.

Country star and past "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood is getting married to hockey player Mike Fisher on Saturday (July 10). But if you're hoping to see photos from the nuptials right away, you may be out of luck.

Security is apparently extremely tight at the resort -- the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga., about 75 miles east of Atlanta -- where the ceremony will take place this afternoon. The lodge sits on a secluded lakefront property well out of public view. Anyone who's not invited to the wedding was ushered out of the resort on Friday, according to several reports, and the one road into the property and its lakefront are well-guarded.

How well guarded? This amusing account in the Ottawa Citizen -- Fisher plays for the NHL's Ottawa Senators -- gives you a pretty good idea.

Look, we get that if you're spending half a million dollars on your wedding -- as Underwood and Fisher reportedly are -- then you don't want to worry about paparazzi or overzealous fans crashing the party. Especially when the guest list includes the likes of "Idol" luminaries Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and several of Fisher's Sens teammates.

But, uh, how to put this ... seriously? The lockdown seems a little much. According to the Ottawa Citizen, only about a dozen out-of-town media folks had arrived in town as of Friday afternoon -- Underwood and Fisher are each pretty big stars in their respective fields, but their union doesn't strike us as being on the media-frenzy level of, say, Brangelina.

Or even Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, who managed to get married last year in a church that's across from a public park in Santa Monica without nearly as much fuss. Just saying.

We wish Carrie and Mike all the best, and if extra-tight security helps with that, then mazel tov.

I'm sure it was for Simon. ;)

Simon and Paula are definitely not there! Simon is doing auditions for X factor today! And Paula isnt there either! And Randy... who cares about him!

PAULA AND SIMON ARE NOT AT HER WEDDING. Simon is in the UK and Paula just isnt all that close with Carrie. Shes close to almost every other winner but not Carrie (I think)

How about we just wish Carrie and Mike the best instead of bashing on their security? If you were a Country music star and famous athlete wouldnt you want as much privacy as possible?

Congrats to Carrie and Mike!

I'z tinks dat kary underhoods iz grose anz I tinks dat sheez gonna beez frigid...I'z dones tink dat sheez beez ani nose goods en bedz

Um...have you seen the 50+ reports on the location, time, guest list, and every other little detail on the internet? That's why. It's their wedding and their day and they want only the people they invite to witness it. It isn't the public's right to be able to see them on this day, as many are making it out to be.

The fact that reporters are trying to get into the venue just proves that they need the security. Nobody wants strangers wandering into their private events, whether it is a wedding, a reunion or a business retreat. As for Tom and Gisele, the Santa Monica wedding was a teeny tiny affair. For the big wedding they went all the way to Costa Rica and there was plenty of security. Reporters tried to get in to that wedding and nearly got their butts shot off.

are you kidding? carrie underwood is one of the biggest superstars in the music industry. there are so many friggin stories putting out any tiny detail that has been "found out"... every media outlet wants details about this marriage

why not have security.it does not matter who the guests are and i know Tim and Faith are there, she is very popular.she does deserve some security.

Hey everyone Im working the wedding reception dinner I have a spy pen I bought and Im gonna have some good shots, cant wait to post on the internet..hee hee
