Vanessa Hudgens vs. Zac Efron: 'Beastly' postponed for 'Charlie St. Cloud'

CBS Films has decided to delay the release of "Beastly," the "Beauty and the Beast" re-boot starring "High School Musical's" Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen. The film was originally slated for release on July 30, 2010, and will now open in theaters on March 18, 2011.

Hudgens' boyfriend, Zac Efron, is the reason for the move, though we're sure he didn't mean it! His film "Charlie St. Cloud," about a young man who sees his dead younger brother, is slated for a July 30 release this summer. CBS Films felt that slating the two movies against one another would be counterproductive.

"There wasn't much left in the summer that we could move it to, we didn't want to go in fall, and the holidays are for four-quadrant movies," CBS Films' Head of Distribution Steven Friedlander tells The Hollywood Reporter. "So we figured if we went to March, we'd have some school breaks happening around that time."

Hmm. Efron may be sleeping on the couch this week.

Check out the trailers for the two films below. Which one would you rather see this summer?

Beastly was better ... I'm not even interested in Charlie whatever

Charlie St. Cloud hands down. It was a good book, looks like a good movie. I don't know what that Beastly junk is trying to be. "Let's take a fairy tale and make it look hip and modern". Yeah, not so much. I love NPH, I feel a little let down that he is even in that movie.

I want to see both movies and I don't think either of them will be threatened by the other. Let them both open this summer. I don't want to wait until March to see Beastly.

I will not be seeing any film that stars Vanessa Hudgens or Mary-Kate Olsen. Did some producer think that by putting both of them in one film they would cancel each other out? It's too bad, too, because I love NPH.

Bummer. I don't really expect Beastly to be good, but it was filmed in and around my apartment building in Montreal last summer.

nether are even in the same catigory as the other. Charlie st. cloud is a movie for an older melodramatic audience and Beatly is for teeny bopper hope and cheesy little girls. I really can't see either affecting the other.
