Will 'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart get a Best Actress Oscar nod?

"Twilight Eclipse" star Kristen Stewart is up (twice) in Sunday's (June 6) MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss category. And she's also the first female to be nominated for Global Superstar, along with her "Twilight Saga" male costars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp and Daniel Radcliffe.

What's next? How about a little thing like a Best Actress Academy Award nomination?

A source involved with Stewart's independent film, "Welcome to the Rileys", which was well received at the Sundance Film Festival, tells The Dish Rag exclusively there could be a Best Actress Oscar campaign planned for Stewart's role as a troubled young stripper/hooker.

"Rileys" was picked up by Bob Berney's Apparition at the festival in January, after fans blast Tweeted  distributors like Sony Classics and The Weinstein Co begging them to pick up the film.

After Apparition snagged it, Sony Worldwide Distribution came in to distribute the film in the US, in exchange for the hefty estimated $7 million cost of P and A (prints and advertising). There was early festival buzz about a Best Supporting nod for Stewart but now that has changed to Best Actress.

The film has an impressive pedigree. Along with the Emmy winning Gandolfini, there's Ridley Scott and his brother Tony, Steve Zallian among the big name producers. The "Sopranos" star and Leo play a couple whose daughter has died. Gandolfini's character is drawn to Stewart's hooker and brings her home.

The film opens this fall, just in time for Oscar consideration. The trailer is on "The Runaways" DVD, due out on July 20 and the film will be shown twice during the upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival.

The fly in the ointment is the sudden resignation in May of Bob Berney from the indie film company he founded.

So it may be time to crank up those tweets again, K-Stew fans. You can find the Apparition and Sony exes emails on IMDb.com Pro. Lord knows the Oscars could stand a big ratings boost from millions of "Twilight" viewers.

OMG! Robert Pattinson could be Kristen's Oscar date!

An Oscar is most likely expected for Kristen sooner or later, she will be around for along time.

I can't wait for this movie to come out. I'm looking forward to seeing Ms. Stewart and the well respected cast of WTTR. If the movie and Stewart's performance is as good as I suspect, I too will join the campaign for Oscar consideration. Keep up the good work Ms. Stewart. Proud of you.

I'm sorry, but don't you actually have to be able to act in order to win an Oscar? I cannot stand Kristen Stewart, and truly wish her fifteen minutes were up already.

I agree with Jerusalem. I don't think she is Oscar quality. And if they do nominate her to 'boost' 'big ratings', then that will give the awards show a bad name, and they'll lose their credibility. You should never say things like that.

The girl can't act. And yes, I've already seen her in Into the Wild and Panic Room. Not much range.

Can't wait see KRISTEN STEWART at Oscart nominated!!

everyone should give this kid a chance! she is a very good actress.. she may be shy during interviews and a little bit confused on red carpet(s) but c'mon, she has the talent! she isn't competing with any actress on the same age as her. she has her own persona. and that's what make her different. let's accept the fact that she is part of Twilight Saga--but each movie that she does, she grows from it. she is also human, she deserve a break, and a little bit of respect....

Kristen can not act. I'm sorry but she can't. I've seen some of her movies (other than Twilight) and she just doesn't seem to have that certain thing that other Oscar nominees have. If they nominate anyone just to boost ratings, they might as well give it as much credibility as the MTV Movie Awards.

Please let's be honest, she ain't oscar material, She has no range she is always so moody, sort of depressed, I am sorry that doesn't show any form of acting abilities, She ruined it for all of us in twilight, If you really look at the kiss in The new Muse Song "Neutron Star Collision" she doesn't look like she lusts for him.
