'Real Housewives NY': Alex McCord defends herself against Jill Zarin's 'fake drama' claims

After the first two seasons of "The Real Housewives of New York City," Alex McCord has realized that taking the high road with Jill Zarin has done nothing to communicate just how angry she really was with the show's former first lady.

"I had to ignore the 'if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all' rule," Alex tells Zap2it. "Because Jill was misinterpreting it as either being weak or lacking in opinion. Neither of which are true."

If you've been watching the reunion show, it's clear that Jill has spared no forgiveness for Alex and by all accounts she has stepped up her attacks on the Brooklyn housewife.

"Alex wants to make herself more important on the show," Jill recently told TV Guide. "And I totally respect that. And this was her way of doing it. This was her way of creating a place for herself to stay on the show."

She goes on to say, "I've done nothing to her. In the first two seasons I was the only one who supported her, and now all of a sudden she found this voice and wants to attack me."

Alex wasn't shocked when we told her about the statements, though she thought they made no sense.

"She knows good and well that that's not true," Alex tells us. "Because she also knows that she and I have knocked heads and she has upset me since Season 1. One difference is I realized after it kept happening over and over again that I really needed to emphasize to her that the behavior that she engages in is not OK."

Viewers could corroborate Alex's story. We've watched Jill make fun of several things from Alex's looks, to her children and her marriage while Alex stayed pretty quiet. Alex admits that was a mistake.

"Everyone else [except Jill and Kelly Bensimon] is well aware that we're all on a reality show and our job is to be real," she explains. "And actually what I realized was that I had to speak loudly enough, so that she can get the message that I was upset. And she was making assumptions, because she didn't hear me. That's what was actually dishonest on my part. But let me put it to you this way - I would be the same way with Jill in an empty room with no cameras."
