O.J. Simpson appeals his robbery conviction -- nice timing, Nevada
Lawyers for O.J. Simpson appealed his 2008 armed robbery conviction before the Nevada Supreme Court on Friday (June 11), arguing in part that his conviction was based on the ex-football star's infamy from the 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole and Ron Goldman. The Dish Rag knows that's Simpson's right, and the court will decide what it decides. That's not the thing that sticks in our craw, though -- we're wondering whether the court really had to schedule Simpson's hearing on the day before the 16th anniversary of the murders. Did someone not consider that? Seriously?
On the night of June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Goldman, a waiter who had befriended her, were repeatedly stabbed at her home in L.A.'s Brentwood neighborhood.
You know the rest of the story -- Simpson was charged with and later acquitted of murder, was found liable in a wrongful-death suit a few years later, and wrote a sordid book called "If I Did It" whose rights were later given to Goldman's family, and the 2008 robbery conviction over sports memorabilia.
That last item is what Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, was arguing before the Nevada Supreme Court on Friday. He contends that because of Simpson's notoriety from the murder case, the trial judge should have worked harder to ensure the selection of a jury that wouldn't prejudge his client and to instruct the jury only to consider the facts in the case.
"This was not a search for truth, but became a search for redemption," he told the court, according to the Los Angeles Times. Simpson, by the way, wasn't at the hearing.
A ruling on the case isn't expected for a while.

Our state (NV) has a lot of problems on it's hands, the latest of which we now have to continue to deal with O.J. Simpson. It never ends does it?!
The great people of this country and of the state of Nevada will gladly pay to keep O.J Simpson in prison where he belongs.
Release him. His shame is such he will be derided, despised and tormented. Let him do so in public...let him be the object of scorn, reprehension and humilitaion. That's real punishment and justice. ss.
If the glove dont fit then you must equit....now how can you steal something that is already yours he is innocent..
He's scum, has he been raped in jail?
That this is any kind of news story is retarded. Is the court system REALLY supposed to look into when crimes this case has nothing to do with and for which Simpson has already been acquited and amend their schedule based on that?
I have lost respect for this site for even putting this garbage out there.
Note: I think OJ is guilty as sin, but that doesn't change this complete non-story.
