Johnny Depp finally gets animated in 'Rango'

Johnny Depp has certainly portrayed an eclectic array of characters in his film career: a gangster, the cross-dressing director Ed Wood, an undercover FBI agent, "Peter Pan" author J.M. Barrie, Willy Wonka, Ichabod Crane in Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow,"  the murderous barber of Demon Street, an astronaut, whatever Edward Scissorhands was, gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Captain Jack Sparrow and most recently, the Fuderwhacking Mad Hatter.

Now Johnny's gotten animated to play a beleaguered chameleon in "Rango," directed by his "Pirates of the Caribbean" pal Gore Verbinski. Given the wide range of roles he's taken on during his career, it only seems fitting that he's voicing a chamelon, doesn't it?

The film also voice stars Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone, Harry Dean Stanton, and Alfred Molina. Unfortunately, "Rango" doesn't hit theaters until March 4, 2011.

Darn it. We'll just have to wait.

Sounds like he's doing a kermit the frog impression.
