Is director Sam Raimi off to see the Wizard of Oz?
Director/producer Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man" trilogy, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," "Drag Me to Hell") may take a trip somewhere over the rainbow. According to NY Mag's Vulture, the director has reportedly been offered Disney's "Oz, the Great and Powerful," a prequel to the MGM classic "The Wizard of Oz."
Which means we will finally get the (possibly dark and scary) back story to the Emerald City and that mysterious and manipulative 'man behind the curtain.' Former Disney Studio head Joe Roth will produce.
But there are more Oz movies coming up. Warner Bros. also has "Wizard of Oz," scripted by Josh Olson ("A History of Violence"). And New Line Cinema, owned by WB, has "Twilight" producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey doing "Oz", penned by by Darren Lemke ("Shrek 4").
That's a heck of a lot trips to the wonderful world of Oz. And way too many flying monkeys (they still scare us).
For Dorothy's sake, let's hope one of these doesn't get off the ground.
Who should play the young Wizard of Oz? Suggestions?

I thought Robert Downey Jr. was a lock for this role already.
Let Raimi worry about making a great World Of Warcraft movie first.
