Ellen DeGeneres on Greyson Michael Chance: 'Trying to do it the right way'
Ellen DeGeneres is taping a variety-show special for TBS next week that will feature a number of acts, ranging from a Japanese troupe with a hit viral video to country stars Lady Antebellum. It would also be natural to expect her protege, 12-year-old YouTube sensation Greyson Michael Chance, to be part of the lineup too, right? Wrong.
"He's getting ready for whatever is going to happen to him. There's a lot that's about to happen, and we're trying to do it the right way," DeGeneres says of Greyson, whom she made the first signee to her newly formed record label.
"The most important thing is what's best for him. If it was just what's best for me, yes, you'd see him on the show. But I just want him to be ready. A lot has happened to him, and he's about to go into the studio and start recording. ... Yes, everybody is expecting that I'd just put him on anything that I do, but I want to do what's best for him and set him up in the right way."
DeGeneres is taping her "Somewhat Special Special" on Wednesday, June 16 in Chicago as part of TBS' "Very Funny" Festival: Just for Laughs comedy showcase. It's scheduled to air Sunday, June 27 and will include performances from Lady Antebellum; Kabuki Expert, the Japanese troupe behind the "Matrix Ping Pong" YouTube hit; magician James Galea, who's been a guest on DeGeneres' talk show; and acrobat Dominic "the Flag Man" Lacasse, along with comedy from DeGeneres herself.

I like that she is actually trying to help him and not just exploit him. So many people in Hollywood wouldn't of done the same, I think he got lucky he got the right person to take him under their wing.
If she REALLY was concerned about his well-being, she wouldn't have signed him in the first place. Fame and fortujne for a 12 year old can only add up to the same fate that befell the likes of Corey Haim or Gary Coleman.
Nah, Ellen's in it for herself. She's workin' the big PR machine now, having forgotten the roots that she espoused when she started her talk show (ie. wearing very little make-up; now she looks like a generic lipstick lesbian).
Not So Impressed, you idiot, for each of the two persons you described, I can name scores more who went on to well adjusted adult lives. People like you are such a waste of space. You make inane accusations about individuals, whom you've never met nor will ever meet in your life, as if they're fact. Get a life.
Ellen a lipstick lesbian? omg not by a long shot.
RE: Not So Impressed (& other like minded people)...
Here's the truth. The press (especially tabloids) not only love negativity and scandal, they THRIVE on it. And THAT is the reason it seems fame at an early age (child stars) destroys so many... key word being "seems".
The media ignores positive or up-lifting stories for the most part, because they're "boring" (according to them) and instead report on bad, negative and scandalous things. And because the focus is there it creates the false impression that alot of it happens with child stars.
Most lose their fame and fade away by adulthood and are just fine. Then many others continue to have fame and are also well adjusted.
It's only a handful of them that have gone on to a wrecked/problem life.
And remember, celebrities are human filled with faults just like the rest of us and so it's entirely likely that their life would've gone to pot even without the fame.
I applaud Ellen for taking it easy with Greyson and wish him all the success and happiness he can get. I'm looking forward to his debut CD.
I think Ellen is "fanticical"..lol And Greyson is awesome. As soon as the CD hits the store... I will certainly buy one!... Rock on Greyson & Ellen we love u both
