David Geffen wants the L.A. Clippers and LeBron James
Entertainment mogul David Geffen, best known as a music exec and film producer, is looking to move into the sports arena, ESPN confirms. The billionaire, who was recently revealed to be the subject of Carly Simon's classic song "You're So Vain," is seeking to obtain a majority share of the Los Angeles Clippers from Donald Sterling.LeBron James and Maverick Carter were in Los Angeles on June 6 to discuss possible opportunities. Carter attended Game 2 of the Lakers/Celtics NBA Finals with Geffen, though James opted to stay away to avoid the media attention his presence at the game would draw.
Sources say that James won't consider the Clippers as long as Sterling is the owner, because he's got a reputation as one of the worst in NBA history. However, James already has a working relationship with Geffen.
"Mr. Sterling has never expressed a desire to sell any part of his team," Clippers president Andy Roeser says. "Because it is an asset of remarkable value, it's true that there have been countless inquiries over the years. But the Clippers have never been for sale."
Apparently, Geffen told Sterling at a recent dinner that "he can deliver LeBron as long as he's calling the shots." We're seriously doubtful -- this town isn't big enough for LeBron and Kobe.
