Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert tweeting jokes about oil-soaked birds -- funny or not?

conan-obrien-stephen-colber.jpgLate-night funnymen Conan O'Brien and Stephen Colbert have recently cracked a few jokes about the Gulf oil spill. So what, right? There are plenty of jokes to be made, particularly at the expense of BP CEO Tony Hayward.

Except O'Brien and Colbert aren't poking fun at Hayward, they're actually making cracks about oil-soaked, dying birds. Innocent animals whose habitat is now pretty much destroyed.

On June 16, Colbert tweeted: "in honor of oil-soaked birds, 'tweets' are now 'gurgles. http://bit.ly/cIhZNf"

If you retweet Colbert's "joke",
Address the Mess will donate one dollar (up to $50,000 total) to The Colbert Nation Gulf of America Fund to aid recovery efforts.

On June 19, Conan tweeted: "The past 2 months I've been on tour and haven't followed the news. What's with all the photos of chocolate pelicans?"

To be honest -- we don't really find either of those tweets funny. Not at all. But at least Colbert's is trying to help? Yay?

What do you think? Are the tweets funny or in really poor taste?

Seriously!

This is news!

AHHHAHAHAHAHA!! Oil spill jokes are sooooooooo funny!!! I guess they got the OK to do oil spill jokes from there God Obama.....right?

Bad taste. We should drench Steve in oil.

I laughed but maybe i dont take things so serious when its only jokes. I guess im going to hell for it.

just laugh people,it beats crying.

I hardly find this anything to be offended about. You clearly don't have much of a sense of humor.

personally i find the existence of twatlight, that ugly justin bieber kid and sparkle cows more offensive than this.

Um...they're not making fun of the BIRDS! Their jokes are meant to emphasize how terrible the situation is. Comedy helps keep people aware of what's going on in the world. It's called dark humor, perhaps you've heard of it.

I thought both jokes were amusing.

I'll bet the birds don't think it's funny.

They're funny. Don't take life so seriously. Both guys aren't saying it's okay to drench birds in oil--(unless you're frying chicken!) It's been part of news for the last two months--we can laugh at ourselves. At least Stephen's stuff is actually generating some money to help clean-up the problem.
