Chris Brown's Michael Jackson tribute: Tears for the 'Man in the Mirror'
When Jermaine Jackson came on stage at the BET Awards to introduce a tribute to his brother Michael Jackson, he didn't say the name of the performer. He just announced, "Here he is!" before Chris Brown appeared behind a screen on stage.Brown has been shut out of Michael Jackson tributes over the last year, having fallen out of favor with the public after his assault of Rihanna became public knowledge.When finally given the chance to honor his idol, Brown went all out - sparkly socks, arm brace, and all.
He danced and lip-synced along to several of Jackson's hits, but the real highlight of the performance came when it was time for Brown himself to sing Jackson's hit "Man in the Mirror." When he opened his mouth to sing the opening line, "I'm gonna make a change for once in my life," Brown couldn't get the words out, fighting back tears.
Was he weeping for Jackson, or because the words hit a bit too close to home? We're guessing it was a bit of both. Brown never managed to pull himself together, so he dropped the microphone and just sang along with the audience, tears streaming down his face.
A few minutes before hitting the stage, Brown tweeted, "BE NERVOUS FOR ME... im s***tin' a brick right now!!!!!" We think that showing some raw human emotion might do some good for Brown's tarnished public image... maybe.
According to the official BET Twitter, Jermaine Jackson thought that "C. Breezy's performance was Jacksonesque!"
What are your thoughts, Zap2it readers? Should Chris Brown have been allowed to perform at the BETs, or is he still persona non grata? Do you think Michael Jackson would have been proud of that performance?

Shut Up! He's human and everybody deserves a second chance on life! Even God forgives so let God be the judge here and judge yourself and hope that one day you make a "mistake" and ask for forgiveness, Lord forbid. Now with that said I forgive you!
Kjo.... wow!! Let it go boo! Haters are everywhere! I’m not a fan of any man who hits a woman but I am also not a fan of any PERSON who can demean a person who doesn’t deserve it. Chris Brown was given a raw deal by the media. There are not too many people who can cast stones but I can guarantee that most of the stone throwers are not innocent themselves. Chris Brown I saw your pain tonight on the BET awards. I felt it through your performance. I wish you as well as Rhianna the best that life has to offer. The defamation has gone on long enough.
I think it is a disgrace to Michael Jacksons name to have someone with such weak moral fibre attempt to step in his shoes..yes he has the moves down but MJ was so much more than that. He was about peace and love and integrity. He was a gentle spirit. Chris Brown is not even close to exemplifying these traits. I mean, did he have to be flexing his muscles on a sea-doo days after the incident? Is that repentance?
It made me sick to my stomach. The Man in the Mirror incident was perfectly timed...whether it was sincere or not it was a moot point. I'm disgusted that Chris Brown was given the opportunity to pay tribute to someone who is 10000 times the man he is.
Chris got himself back together after the Rihanna fight thingie, he just needed the community to understand that! He's a better man and deserves a second chance just like every human being. Every single person is capable of committing mistakes, but it's others role to give this person a chance to fix his mistakes. People should stop seeing Chris as a sin maker or something! He's just a man who's trying to show you haters that he's back on his feet and much stronger than ever. So all he's asking is just another chance, and I think by this move, performing at the BET awards he shall regain ur respect! He did such an AMAZING job! I've never seen anyone as good as he did, no one can compete with his performance I'm telling you. I'm a huge Chris Brown fan, and I believe he did outstanding job and you haters are just jealous if you think he didn't ;) and BTW it's not about MJ, it's about CB *******!!!!

Chris Brown was the ONLY person who could do a proper Michael Jackson tribute AND HE DID A BRILLIANT JOB!!! I'm SO happy BET allowed him to perform!!! Bravo Chris Brown and WELCOME BACK!!
@Kjo -
That whole statement was just a mess and a half. You think it's a disgrace? Micheal Jackson was ridiculed by the public, made out to be a child molester, and constantly joked on. Don't you think that, going through all that kind of hardship, Micheal Jackson would want people to forgive instead of wanting people to be eternally pissed off @ Chris Brown? For someone who speaks like they know Micheal Jackson personally, I don't really think you get him... like... at all. Micheal Jackson was all about love, peace, and forgiveness. Maybe you should take another listen to his music so you can get the real point.
People thought Michael Jackson was a child molester, BUT HE WASN'T. People think Chris Brown is a woman beater... AND HE IS. Don't compare them. Chris Brown is guilty of brutally beating a woman in the face. Michael Jackson was NOT GUILTY and he hated violence as a victim of domestic abuse himself. He would never have forgiven Chris Brown.
I think it's sad that BET embraced someone who recently bashed in the face of his girlfriend and a fellow performer. For some reason, the hip hop community embraces people like Chris Brown and R. Kelly. That's a shame. Do I think Chris Brown is the most horrible person ever? No. But to watch him cry over a humanitarian song, when he was hardly apologetic to his situation with Rihanna, is hysterical.
why ask dumb questions? do you know that when Michael was asked before he died about the new generation of artists and who would best follow in his foot steps, he said Chris Brown? And Michael said it without any extra thought or hesitation. More than that, Chris Brown actually had a personal relationship with Michael. So how the hell should he not have the chance to show how much he loved Michael? So sick of idiots.
