Chad Jones critically injured in wreck; doctors trying to save leg of New York Giants rookie
Chad Jones, a New York Giants rookie safety and third-round NFL draft pick out of LSU, sustained serious injuries after an early-morning car accident in New Orleans. WWL-TV reports that his left leg was fractured, shattering both the tibia and fibula and exposing arteries and nerves.
Pro Football Talk reports from a league source that doctors are now trying to save Jones' leg and ESPN's Adam Schefter echoed the same news on Twitter. Les Miles, Jones' coach at LSU, tweets, "Just got news about Chad Jones' car accident. We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers."
Jones hit a telephone pole in the one-car accident. The other two passengers in the car are reportedly doing fine. There is no word yet on what caused Jones to lose control of the car. ESPN reported that Jones will be charged with "careless operation of a vehicle." The police also said they would be looking at toxicology reports.
We'll keep you updated as more word becomes available about the surgery.
