TV chef Juan-Carlos Cruz pleads 'not guilty' to wife murder plot
A former Food Network chef -- Juan-Carlos Cruz -- has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and solicitation to commit murder.The charges are the result of an investigation into his alleged hiring of homeless men to kill his wife by slitting her throat with a box cutter. He offered them $1,000.00 for thei job
Cruz, who hosted the Food Network show "Calorie Commando," entered his not guilty plea Monday (May 17) in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Santa Monica police arrested Cruz on Thursday after one of the homeless men told the police about the plot and helped their investigation by wearing a wire while a policeman videotaped the final meeting between Cruz and the homeless man.
Cruz's bail has been set at $2 million. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled June 23.
