Gary Coleman dies at age 42

gary-coleman-500-getty.jpgGary Coleman, child star of 'Diff'rent Strokes," has been removed from life support and passed away.

Coleman was admitted to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center Wednesday, May 26 after he fell and hit his head. The doctors said a brain hemorrhage was what most likely caused the fall and left him in critical condition.

In a statement released Friday, May 28 by Coleman's manager John Alcantar, it was made public that "Mr. Coleman was slipping in and out of consciousness and his condition worsened ... Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support."

Coleman's wife Shannon Price and her father were at the hospital Friday.

Coleman has suffered with various medical hardships his entire life. His growth was halted at an early age due to a congenital kidney disease that destroys the auto-immune system. It left him standing only 4'8" tall. He has undergone two kidney transplants, one in 1973 and one in 1984, and requires daily dialysis. Coleman also suffered a seizure on the set of "The Insider" in February 2010.

He has also been plagued by financial difficulties, stemming from a mismanagement of his "Diff'rent Strokes" earnings by his parents. Coleman successfully sued his parents in 1989 and won a $1.28 million judgment in 1993, but later filed for bankrupcy in 1999.

Coleman has also been involved in various assault and domestic dispute incidents and an automobile accident charge of disorderly conduct and reckless driving. This type of tragedy has plagued the stars of "Diff'rent Strokes," as star Dana Plato committed suicide in 1999 and star Todd Bridges fought drug and alcohol problems, though he is now clean and sober and speaks about the dangers of drugs.

RIP, Gary Coleman.
