Report: Charlie Sheen close to plea deal in Colorado

charlie-sheen-stan-rosenfield2.jpgCharlie Sheen's Colorado court case could be reaching a conclusion soon -- just in time for CBS to announce its schedule for next season.

Lawyers for Sheen, who was arrested on Christmas and charged with assaulting wife Brooke Mueller, and prosecutors in Aspen are "deep in plea negotiations" on the case, according to TMZ. Sheen's camp would like to get a deal done before May 19, when CBS announces whether "Two and a Half Men" will be part of its 2010-11 lineup.

Normally, that decision would be a no-brainer, since "Men" the most-watched comedy on TV. But the court case and the reports that Sheen is either leaving the show or is in contract negotiations (his current deal ends this season) have clouded the picture a bit.

The main issue over a plea deal in Colorado is whether Sheen would plead guilty to a misdemeanor (his team's preference) or a felony. His lawyers signaled last month that they would play hardball in the case if it goes to trial, filing motions to exclude statements he made to officers, collect evidence that Mueller may have changed her story and get the personnel file of an officer who was later dismissed from the Aspen PD.

As for his status on "Two and a Half Men," TMZ says it's looking more likely that he'll re-up with the show for two more seasons.
