'Real Housewives of NJ's' Jacqueline Laurita on Danielle Staub: 'She was lying to my face'

It's no secret that Jacqueline Laurita can't stand "Real Housewives of New Jersey" cast mate Danielle Staub now. But at this point in the season, Jacqueline is still trying to play nice with Danielle.

"I really sincerely thought she wanted to change and wanted a new start," Jacqueline tells Zap2it. "I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt once again and see if she's being real this time."

In the last episode, we saw a turning point, though. Danielle's daughter had made the cover of a magazine and Danielle invited Jacqueline to attend a luncheon to celebrate. But, Jacqueline tells us that she was set up.

"She called me and invited me to things, knowing that I would say 'no,'" Jacqueline says. "And then when she hung up the phone with me, she conspicuously said, 'Awkward.' She meant it to be that way for me."

Jacqueline says that she and Danielle had made a deal to be "peaceful acquaintances" before shooting started. She told Danielle she wouldn't be spending time with her anymore, but she also promised that she wouldn't shun her if they saw each other or talk about her behind her back.

Danielle's phone call and then the stunt she pulled by pointing out two empty chairs at the luncheon in the last episode and claiming Jacqueline and castmate, Dina Manzo, were no-shows proved Danielle didn't intend to hold her side of the bargain.

"She had to make an announcement that I wasn't there? Who does that?" asks Jacqueline. "I feel like that whole phone call, that whole luncheon, was all a set-up to try and make me look bad. I thought we were both at a good place with each other, but obviously we're not in a good place, because she's still trying to paint a picture. She's still doing these calculating moves."

Jacqueline will be figuring out Danielle's deception on Monday's (May 17) episode when word gets back to her about what Danielle pulled.

"Some of the women from her luncheon told me what she was up to," she says. "And then, in a phone call you'll see, she says something that hits me wrong. I think it comes out that when she asks me to these things, she wasn't being sincere about them. So, she kind of contradicts herself next episode, I would say."

Jacqueline was one of Danielle's last defenders on the Bravo show after her shady history was revealed when the housewives discovered the book, "Cop Without A Badge," which detailed her 1986 arrest on eight charges including extortion, cocaine possession and narcotics conspiracy. Despite Danielle's claims that she had very little idea of what was going on, witness testimony would show that Danielle played a very active role in the crimes and that she indeed worked as a paid escort.

Jacqueline tells us she gave Danielle plenty of opportunities to explain herself.

"She told me straight out that if you hear something come to me," she explains. "So, that's what I did. I went to her and I'd tell her when I see her. She, of course, denied everything. But the more facts started coming out, the more I realized she was lying to my face."

But, even up until she saw Danielle's stunt in the last episode, Jacqueline gave her the benefit of the doubt.

"[Danielle] was going to mess with us all season," says Jacqueline. "That just proved to me by watching that episode that she was never sincere about anything she said to me."

Jacqueline didn't want to ruin the next episode for us, which shows Teresa Giudice and Danielle's daughters walking in New York Fashion week, but she did say, "I think Danielle is enjoying living her modeling career that she really never had through her daughter. That's for sure."

Before we wrapped up, Jacqueline had one more thing to say about her former friend, "If you look up the definition of a sociopath, that's what I think Danielle is."
