Kobe Bryant LA Times photos: All white or all wrong?
The LA Times magazine's startlingly stylized fashion photos of basketball great Kobe Bryant clad in all-white have drawn some interesting comments and harsh criticism on the Web.Some have called the photos racist, comparing the shots to 19th century minstrel black face advertisements.
Some critics complain that he looks too subdued and submissive. According to the Los Angeles Times' Lakers blog, a few of his teammates were also befuddled by his wardrobe in the shoot. The stylist at the photo shoot says she was trying to conjure up Tupac Shakur. But some blogs have called it closer to Ted Danson and Al Jolson.
Kobe himself has said that it felt the shots were a little "too artsy" but he had a "nice time" during the shoot. What do you think of these shots of the basketball hero? To be fair, there seems to have a method to the fashion photo madness. The headline for the Kobe profile the photos accompany is "Kobe Bryant White Hot." Oh, now we get it.

In 1988 The Los Angeles Times did an article on me called Omar The Style Broker.I have been a successful model agent for 30 years & have launch the careers of many of the biggest male models in the world in that period therefore I have the right to comment on Pure Kobe. NBA players & the rest of the Sports World should praise Kobe & photographer Ruven Afanador for this AMAZING Editorial. It's Sad to read & hear the comments made by NON FASHION Folks who pay NO attention to the world of Fashion & Kudos to KOBE for stepping out his comfort zone & doing something creative & VERY CHIC. I wish more sports figures pay attention to today Fashion & get off those horrible Baggy outfits that are so NON Flattering to the body. Bravo Kobe & I wish i had the opportunity to teach 80% of the American sports world How to dress.Sincerely,OMAR
Thank goodness OMAR doesn't have the opportunity to dress 80% of America, or else 80% of America would look totally QUEER.
Wow! Omar, that was the lamest, queerest crap I've ever heard. HE LOOKS LIKE A WEIRDO! And you arent sounding any better yourself ya freak! Thank God MJ never did a spread like that!! Well said Glove.
ahaahahahahah :)
This is a joke on so many levels. How do you get "Tupac" from the white hat and bowtie with a headband? If you read the stylist's explanation it makes this whole thing even funnier. This is a close second to those A-rod pictures of him kissing himself in the mirror...lol-Classic!
The photos are nice; the clothing is ridiculous. Just like most fashion photography.
HE LOOKS SOOOOOOOOOOO STUPID!
to tell you the truth,i think he looks gay in them pix
He looks like some Voo Doo priest guy from Haiti
