Elizabeth Edwards fights cancer, wants older daughter to raise younger sibs
Elizabeth Edwards, who is battling cancer, doesn't want her former husband's mistress Rielle Hunter to raise her two young kids if she dies.Insiders told the New York Daily News that she is exploring ways to keep her daughter Emma, 12, and son Jack, 10, away from John Edwards and Hunter, who is already raising their out-of-wedlock daughter, Quinn.
There's buzz that Elizabeth's 28-year-old daughter, Cate, may raise the younger kids. Cate graduated from Harvard Law School, is a federal court clerk in Alexandria, Va., owns a home in the tony area of Georgetown and is in a rock-steady relationship with a resident doctor at Georgetown University Hospital.
Elizabeth could be thinking about the kids' guardianship because her health has taken a turn for the worse. Her sister, Nancy Anania Sims, disputes that but did concede to the NY Daily News that her sister does want to stop her ex-husband and his former mistress from getting custody.
"There are a lot of family members who are willing and able [to look after Jack and Emma]," says Sims, who says she might be one of them. "They'll be well taken care of."

I pray for these children's sake that Elizabeth's wish is granted. What a great example of citizenry to be be raised by your cheating father and his mistress who slept with him while your mother was dying.
This situation is probably a lot more common than people would think. I wonder how many children are, and have been, raised by a cheating parent and his/her newly married lover- even when illness is involved. Elizabeth is a quiet force to be reckoned with; more power to her.
I'm still waitting for an entertainment site to report on Bill Maher's "Real Black President" comments, is it beacause he's on the Hollywood A-List?
She is an extreme class act. My prayers are for her and the children. God is in control always.
i agree with Elizabeth, i wouldn't want what's-her-name to raise my children if i were her either. plus, that lady he had the affair with seems a little crazy (and i mean not in a good way).
God Bless Elizabeth.
That's just vile, and clearly it is not true. The court would never take John's children away from him. He's not in prison. He's their dad. He's also Cate's dad, duh!!! Cate got a bum deal when her hysterical mother had those two extra kids to "replace" Wade. Sorry Elizabeth, but people can't run the world from the grave. When you're gone, John will do what he pleases. He chose you, he chose Rielle, it is what it is.
I have wondered about this. I am thankful to hear that Elizabeth is addressing this and THANK GOD she has a daughter old enough to take on this task. I cannot even imagine that narcissistic witch, RIELLE (what a stupid fake name) raising my child.
Cheaters are not fit parents. Instead of spending time with their children, they spend their time with other people breaking up the family.
The laws should be changed so that these people neither get custody (only visitation) nor any marital property.
lark, the courts don't have to do it. she can get John to sign off on it before she dies. i think he would agree if it was her final wishes. so there it is. duh!
