Elisabeth Hasselbeck cries, apologizes to Erin Andrews for stalker bait comments

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has just apologized on "The View" for criticizing Erin Andrews' sexy clothing on 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Andrews, 32, has had two separate stalking incidents this year and on "The View" Tuesday (May 4)  Hasselbeck questioned Erin's fashion choices because "for the past three weeks, she's been wearing next to nothing."

"In light of what happened and as illegal and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room... I mean, in some way if I'm him, I'm like, 'Man! I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this - a little bit less - without the prison time!'"

She was talking about the obsessed man fan who videotaped Andrews through hotel peepholes and put the footage on the Web. He was sentenced to jail time in March. In April, Andrews began to received death threats from another wacko.

Her dance partner and DWTS wardrobe stylist Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tweeted his defense: "I'm the one designing @ErinAndrewsESPN's dresses for the show, so I'll just assume that @ehasselbeck is jealous... and stupid 4 her comments," he tweeted.

After Tuesday's (May 4)  DWTS show, Erin called Elisabeth's remarks "a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators."

So on today's "View" (May 5) Elisabeth tearfully explained that she was sorry for hurting Erin's feelings.  She explained that she was watching 'Dancing' with her five-year-old daughter last night.

She told her daughter, Grace, "Today Mommy hurt someone's feelings,'" and in between choking back tears, she explained how she told Grace that "reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword." And then she read to her daughter from her inspirational book.

From what she said, it sounded like she called Erin personally, as her daughter suggested. We're waiting for confirmation on that phone call.

But Elisabeth deftly managed to use this opportunity to boost her mommy creds and cried prettily on the show as a public apology. Of course, regular "View" viewers have probably lost count of how many times Elisabeth has been reduced to tears on the show.

Are those crocodile tears? Or did Elisabeth change her mind about the clothes?
