Country singer Chely Wright absolutely, positively comes out! Who now?
Well, the mysterious entertainer whom The Dish Rag first reported was coming out this week has officially gone and done it.Country singer Chely Wright is now an officially open-and-out lesbian. And thanks to her coming out party, a lot more people actually know her name and who she is. Bravo to her genius publicist, Howard Bragman!
She tells People she had a good reason to be initially coy about her sexuality: "There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality. I wasn't going to be the first."
But now she's singing a different tune. "Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out," she says.
She says the country music world was not gay friendly. "I hid everything for my music," Wright admits.
The singer-songwriter has won an Academy of Country Music and a Country Music award. And she has a memoir also, pardon the phrase, coming out this week. And her new album -- the first in five years entitled "Lifted Off the Ground" is being released too.
She'll also appear on the Today Show Wednesday to discuss her personal journey. Amazing isn't it? Coming out now paves the way for stardom.

K.D. Lang was openly gay as a country music artist artist so the statement "there had never been a country music artist..." is not true. I would think that would be something Chely would be aware of. I know Chely's music and this absolutely reeks of a statement only made to gain publicity. We heard about this, what, a few weeks ago? All this build up for something like this, which is just nonsense.
What, I'm supposta rush out and buy her CD now? Right.
Who is she again, and why should I care who she sleeps with? I'm serious. Why should I care about who someone I don't even know climbs into bed with at night?

Uh, Fran, Im pretty sure KD Lang has never been, nor will she ever be a country artist. Chely is correct. She is the first openly gay country star. Personally, I'm waiting for the hot guy in Rascal Flatts to come out. Joe Don? Is that how you say it? It's bound to happen.
K.D. Lang is NOT a country music star. I'd love to see that guy from Rascal Flatts come out but that's NOT going to happen.
k.d lang has done far more genuine country music than Chely Wright or Rascal Flatts, it's her fanbase that isn't very country.
This is ridiculous. I don't care if she is gay or straight, but the timing of her announcement (years after her career started, the launch of a new album, the release of a book) makes me question her motives. Is she doing this for fame as http://www.weltbranding.com/blog/ suggests?

The "we need to support a gay artist thats coming out" market. Thats a big market. Kudos, using your coming out to try to save a stalled career. What a *****.
k.d. lang was originally a country artist, but being gay was not the reason for her move away...her comments on the beef industry in the 80s caused her split with country music.
