Betty White as Oscar host? We hope not
Zap2it loves Betty White, but that doesn't mean we want her to host the Oscars.The lovely comedian joked in a promo that after hosting "Saturday Night Live," maybe she could then move on to the Academy Awards.
From your lips, Betty, to a Facebook user's ears.
Sure enough, just like the campaign to get her to host "SNL," a Facebook page "Getting Betty White to Host the Academy Awards" was conceived and already has more than 18,000 people (and counting) "liking" it. But we're not one of them.
Why?
Well, here's the deal. We think she would be an awesome addition to any awards show (as we've seen at the Golden Globes and other recent ones). She's got the charm, wit and chutzpah to cross that geriatric line into naughty no-no laughs.
But have you seen the Oscars? It's so long we need to get our bangs trimmed by the end of the telecast. Our Sea Monkey family has had great grandkids.
White may be forever young, but she needs a few breaks, and running that many hours in a row would be taxing on anyone, let alone someone who's 88-1/2-years-old. We want to celebrate Betty, not exhaust her.
We also dont want to her natural charisma to lose its power from overexposure. She's so wonderful because she's rare. Let's not kill her appeal by making her her own punchline.
We will support her having a part in the Academy Awards though. Perhaps taking part in a tag team opening monologue or musical number. That would be fantastic. Or maybe presenting something technical like special effects. We can hear her line now, "I'm nearly 90. For me a special effect is when I forget my bifocals." Or something like that. Look, we're not Betty White. She does the jokes.

Betty was great on SNL and will do a great job again.
I love Betty! No more Facebook campaign for her. She said it is a waste of time other night on SNL. I agree with her. Give Betty a break.
Could you use a worst picture?
From what I've read about SNL, an hour and a half of constantly running around and changing costumes/make-up is a lot more stressful than coming out every 45 minutes and making a joke or two at the Oscars.
Having said that, I don't think her sense of humor fits the Oscars very well.
Don't over do it Betty, people can get sick of you really fast. Pace yourself.
Can't be any worse than previous hosts.

HEY Zap2it.... have you watched the Oscars lately???? The host doesn't do a whole lot these days. An opening monologue and show up a few brief times after that at most. If Betty can handle SNL she should be able to do that easily.
That's one thing I don't like about the Oscars... the host doesn't do much lately. So little in fact I wonder why they bother having one. Seems like the host did LOTS more when Billy Crystal was doing it. The host needs to be used and seen more now.
If Betty does it you won't hear me complaining.
