'True Blood's' Anna Paquin comes out as bisexual, supports equal rights for LGBT

In the new public service announcement from the True Colors Fund, an organization fighting for equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals, Anna Paquin says that she's bisexual and that she gives a damn. She also says that "approximately one hate crime is committed every hour of every day in this country."

The 26-year-old star of HBO's "True Blood" is engaged to her co-star Stephen Moyer and surprised many by declaring that she's bisexual at the PSA shoot, according to Radaronline. Sources told them that "people close to Paquin, who were at the shoot, did not know she was going to make the statement, and it was a surprise to them."

Anna Paquin joins the "Give a Damn" campaign alongside Clay Aiken, Elton John, Jason Mraz, Whoopi Goldberg, Cyndi Lauper, Sharon Osbourne and many other celebrities.

"Give A Damn" is the theme of the campaign which officially launches on-line at wegiveadamn.org at 9 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 1. THe Trule Colors Fund was co-founded by Cyndi Lauper and is "dedicated to inspire and engage everyone, particularly in the straight community, to become active participants in the advancement of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) equality."
