Sarah Palin's 'Real American Stories' not so special after all
LL Cool J and Toby Keith both complained publicly (LL, on Twitter) about Fox letting Sarah Palin use old interviews they gave on her "Real American Stories" special. So two celebs didn't want to appear on her show. And lots more didn't even bother to watch it.
The special, which debuted Thursday (April 1) in Sarah's pal Greta Van Susteren's "On the Record" time slot, drew 2.073 million total viewers and 472,000 A25-54 viewers.
Palin's special was down 10% in total viewers and 28% in the A25-54 demo demo compared to Greta's previous Thursday episode.
Did they tune in, then bail? Looks like it. Ratings for the final 15 minutes were down 18% and 22% in A25-54 viewers compared to the first 15 minutes.
Those who did watch got to see stories about courage, patriotism and "warrior spirit." Profiles featured Real Americans such as wealthy folks who donate money to good causes; a heroic Marine; a family with a son coping with cerebral palsy.
One positive note: Palin didn't have to refer to her hand during the show. She did well reading the teleprompter (after sharply criticizing Barack Obama for using one) .
Editorial critics used phrases to describe her show such as, "frozen smiles and rhetoric," "let down," "infotainment" and "innocuous."
We'll take the warrior spirit displayed on "Dancing with the Stars" over Palin's faux show. Vote with your remotes, people.

you are just disappointed because it wasn't a flop... as for ratings, if you had a brain you would have noticed that all the viewership for all the cable networks was down that day because a lot of people were getting into the long weekend... actually, once you do the numbers, she was up compared to others numbers on a comparable... so keep your hate in your own home, just like all the bile you have built up and then puke in your own house....
Elizabeth - You sure did a good job hiding your glee over her show not grabbing tons of viewers. Another shocker - more lame stream media folks want to see her fail. Why don't you and the other "critics" who want to see her fail give the show more than a cursory glance (just watching the first episode). I for one will watch the show a few times before I pan it as a "let down." How many other shows looked like complete crap the first few episodes. It does take some time for a show to get on it's feet.
Wow...what a surprise! Instead of an unbiased review of the show itself, the thinly veiled political insults come out. Talking about the lack of notes on her hand, the teleprompter, and making sure to include the word "faux"...a favorite of anyone who hates Fox News. Why don't you check and see what ratings CNN and MSNBC got that same exact hour, and report back to us. Let us know if the shows on those other networks "flopped" too.
this is MUCH ado about NOTHING!!It was a decent show & I see nothing wrong with a network using an interview they own, for another purpose. Her show had a theme & it was an all round interesting show
the idea of Sarah is way too scary to focus on any heartwarming tales... all anyone can focus in is the terror that lays ahead if she continues to charm so many people
Oh for heaven's sake, Palin merely introduced interviews that other people had accomplished. She could have been introducing fitness equipment for all the skill this took. The fact is: She's not a serious journalist. She's never written a serious article. She simply reads what others write. She's an actress. Her entire "journalism" creds are as a weather girl and a sportscaster. You can admire her if you want, but she doesn't have the credentials to call herself a journalist.
Hi Elizabeth, I don't know if you read this, but if you are, IGNORE THE TROLLS! They do not represent the average readers! Most of us agree with your assessment - it is, to borrow a phrase I heard somewhere, "fair and balanced". *wink*
Biased much there Elizabeth???
LOL i love it. The people backing her and the people bashing her. Its great entertainment. NOT
The FOX network threw together a canned show because that is Palin's speed - canned and rehashed rhetoric.
As far as her Discovery Communications program, the public tunes Palin out because she is a massive hypocrite - her unprecedented wolf kill program was enacted to support the very profitable business (for whites, not Natives) of bringing hunters to Alaska at $10,000 per moose head shot, not including hotels, helicopters, guide fees etc.
Shooting wolves in Palin's Alaska is about throwing nature completely OFF balance, so that tour operators can lure wealthy white game hunters to spend big and guarantee a kill - it has nothing to do with subsistence hunting.
A little research reveals that even a member of Palin's own wildlife board called her practices "a jihad" on wildlife - and he wasn't necessarily against it! Also, the nearby US forestry and game keepers were absolutely opposed to Palin's wolf abuse proposals.
Toxic dumping, attacks on Beluga whales, endangerment of brown and black bears are all part of "Palin's Alaska."
The Learning Channel will come to regret they ever even heard the name Palin, just like most of the rest of America does.
